My friend has just been discharged from hospital after suffering a fit. They are unsure of the cause but a brain scan found a leison on her brain. She now has to wait upto 6 weeks for an MRI scan. Obviously she is worried and is considering paying privately for the MRI - does anyone know how much its likely to cost?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm an interpreter and arranged a private MRI scan for a client about 2 weeks ago at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh - it was £550, but this may vary from hospital to hospital.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0

I would say that is about right £500/£600. As hubby had a CAT scan a couple of years ago and that cost about £300ish.

Hi Poppy
I have a benign brain tumour and have to have annual MRI scans. I am covered by BUPA via my husbands employers but they send me the bill initially. I've just looked up the bill for last year -Aug 04 and it was £569. This was in Sheffield.0 -
Just to say that it's important to make clear you are going private. In this case it would probably be obvious, but I have a friend who saw consultant privately and he wanted her to have a scan, the secretary assumed that since she didn't have insurance that the scan would be NHS and put her on that waiting list!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Ok I'll let her know. If it was going to be more than £1k I was going to offer to help her out so that she could get it over with quickly. I know under that amount they will be able to afford.
Thanks for all your advice etc.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Ah, what a lovely gesture.0 -
to get an appointment within 6 weeks would be considered an emergency appointment in most MRI scanners. Make sure that if you do decide to go down the private route that you are getting people specialised in neuro radiology as it is a speciality in radiology.x x x0

Or as in hubby's case at 8am. Before all the NHS patients.
