I rang Tesco and you can only have 1 sole account each and 1 joint account between you. So that is 3 accounts all together. This means that you can only have £9000 between them or can you put £6000 into a joint account and earn 3% on that amount?

Let me do sum simple Maffs 4 ya:

    1 sole (£3k) + 1 sole (£3K)+ 1 Joint (£3K) = £9K - the Joint is like having two named accounts but with a £3k limit

    2 soles (£6K) + 2 soles (£6K) = £12K

    Ya dig?

We had a single account each and a joint.

We have closed the joint account and are in the process of opening a second single account each.

Incidently, today Tesco call centre advised that they had a queue of 80 calls on the phone.
  • Does the current account have to be operated as such or can £3000 be put in and then no further transactions on the account?

I suggest you read the T&Cs and you'll get confirmation so you're sure rather than relying on someone online here. I use mine as a full current account but there is no requirement to pay money in or have any active DDs (yet)

"Tesco Bank Current Accounts are not available to people living in Northern Ireland, due to the regulatory differences between NI and the rest of the UK. We hope to be able to offer current accounts to you in the future."

You could try phoning them to find out when, although......

  • Tesco have paused applications for their current account due to excessive demand.
In the FAQ it says they will notify customers when the applications reopen, but how do I become a customer and receive the notification ?

Open a savings account... or keep an eye on here.
  • Thanks @soulsaver
Just had a look at Tesco Internet Saver account and it's paying 0.96% AER including 0.56% bonus for 12 months. Not a bad rate for instant access.

Or you could open a Nationwide Flexdirect account and get 5% for 12 months. I'm sure, once they reopen applications it'll be mentioned on here.
