credit report

If I sign up to one of the 3 credit report websites and try and get a credit report, does that affect my credit rating or have any sort of effect on the report to the negative consequence?

Hi hsharma94,
Getting a copy of your credit report does not affect your credit rating, there's no negative consequences as only "soft searches" are left on your report. If you sign up to these services and apply for credit, then this will affect your score.

Hi MSE Chris,
What are "soft searches"?
I have had my credit card for over 2 years now, hence I would like to see a report. So far, I have paid the full balance, every month, on time and have not incurred any charges what so ever.
However, last month I exceeded my limit by £30 as I was waiting for refunds back on my card. However, without any delay I cleared £100 off my credit card to give me an extra £70 leeway. Will this affect my credit score?
Thanks.0 -

Chris - is there any ETA on this?
hsharma94 - here are the links for the other free ones:

I would like to know the ETA too.
What's MSE's definition of 'soon'? Days? Weeks? Months?0
