My 'working day' is coming to an end at last, I've been hunched over a hot laptop for most of the day. Loads of spreadsheets and documents, I was so pleased when I managed a very simple 'IF' formula for the first time. I know...sad!

The postie popped in with my mail just in time to pick up a birthday card to take for me. They also collect mail from round here if needed which is brilliant. The card is only going about 200 metres up the road, via the delivery office and all stamped, but I like cards coming in the post.

I've had the woodburner blazing since about 10.30 when I could stand the cold no more. The trouble is that watching the dancing flames is riveting and much more interesting than any spreadsheets.

Last night I recorded the last episode of 'The Unforgotten' and am going to watch it in bed later. I know how it ends but still want to watch it.

My hot mince and tatties is almost ready so I'm off. Hope all is well with everyone.

Good evening everyone, thanks to nmlc for starting the thread and hugs to anyone that needs one.
It's been bitterly cold here today and even thought (albeit not very hard LOL) about snowing for a wee while earlier. We tend not get much of the "white stuff" here so doubt it will come anything.
Managed to use my "wheels" to get to the Drs this afternoon (and back) it's only a few hundred yards but it's the furthest I've managed in almost 6 months so I really pleased though very unsteady now.
Keeping it simple foodwise tonight with cajun chicken thighs, HM wedges and LO coleslaw so very little prep or washing up required. I have defrosted some diced pork ready to marinade overnight for souvlaki tomorrow so that will be a nice treat.
Hope everyone has a good evening x
  • Jackie - sounds like you should start up a taxi business!

:) Funny you should say that before I retired in 1995 I was a taxi driver for 22 years:rotfl::rotfl:Think my family just turn to me automatically.

I enjoyed History this afternoon and we had a great giggle learning all about the silent movie stars Chaplin,Keaton Laurel and Hardy etc, then as I had just come out and was getting into my car who should ring but DGS Henry saying any chance of a lift home its freezing ,and as he had been at school for an extra couple of lessons doing revision I couldn't say no as the wind is really cutting.

Just gone on line as my eldest DD is about to take off for NYC and sen that the north east of the USA have had a foot of snow in the past 12 hours .Quickly rang her, and she said their flight is only delayed by about half an hour at the moment. Hope she's got some thermals with her fingers crossed it doesn't arrive here next week:eek:

Just waiting for DD to get home from work then after she has changed I will be running her to her friends the other side of Chatham for the evening and probably picking her up about 11 pm. Hope the DGS get the last train OK back from Victoria tonight or I will be trundling up there as well at God knows what time :(

Have a good evening chums and keep wrapped up warm

    JackieO xx

Gers, not sad at all to get excited about IF! It is a rather complex formula to get right. In times past, when I was a geek, I remember finding nested IF really hard to grasp. One night I "dreamt" it, not sure what happened to my brain, but I just got it, suddenly, in the middle of the night. I got up and switched on my PC, which at the time was in my bedroom because we had only a tiny flat. DH mumbled a bit, then turned over and went back to sleep. I fired up Excel and tested it, and it worked!

JackieO I laughed when I saw Speky's post about you and taxi, nearly said something but then judged it was not my place to say, left it to you to disclose!

Update on my day. Had a very sugary and generally refined-carby cream tea with friends, the company was lovely, the food was delicious and pernicious at the same time. Came back home craving savoury stuff and hit the cheese with a vengeance. And had a glass of red wine, because you can't have some fancy posh cheeses (the stash that I had got for DH's birthday) without a nice glass of red (also from his stash).

He was well happy that we were sharing this lovely meal, I knew that this must be a one-off, not to be repeated for a long time.

Anyway, I have got such a deep, all-encompassing realisation that I am behaving in such a compulsive way around food because of the damned weight watchers diet. So I have cancelled my subscription and am not going back. The nearly 3Kg I lost last week were due to starvation, I was so hungry all the time.

I will go back to sensible, low-ish carb, moderate protein semi-vegetarian diet, with a lot of green veg, a bit of good quality fish thrown in and massively reduced fruit intake. It was just doing my head in and I feel so relieved to have ditched it.

    Good night.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
