USA Car Hire

Hoping I can get help from more experienced members.

I will be heading to the US later this year for a three week trip. On the first part of this trip I want to hire a rental car for a week to take me from Minnesota to South Dakota. I am picking up a friend in Minnesota who is a US resident. My intention was to include my friend as an additional driver on the car hire so that they could return the car to Minnesota while I moved further on.

In my searches for car hire however there seems to be a reluctance to provide this arrangement with most saying they will not rent to US residents.

Can anyone advise me how I can go about solving my problem. I do not want to get involved in doubling up the hire arrangements together with one way fees.

Thank you
