Hi all
Im thinking of taking the family down London to stay overnight and see a few sights. i live near Nottingham and usually take the train to St Pancras but for 3 of us its too pricey at £150+, so im wondering wheres a good place to drive down to, park up and get the train from there?
I can get a train from Northampton to Kings Cross for £50ish and thats about 70 miles drive for me so that will save a fair bit, even with parking overnight
Does anyone know any other good places to drive down to and just hop get to London like that?
thanks

Northampton trains run to Euston.
The obvious choices if it has to be Kings Cross from Nottingham are Newark or Grantham.0 -
Are you comfortable driving into London? If so I would jusy park somewhere like Whitefield Ave in Brent Cross, park on the street and walk 15mins to the Tube (Northern Line).0

I can get from Kings Cross to Northhampton with a change, im trying to not pay massive train prices by driving some of the way0

i dont mind driving anywhere but im trying to strike the balance between some train, to cut the heavy traffic out and driving part way

Actually ive just checked Newark to St Pancras, and its half the price of Nottingham to St Pancras?
Its almost as far surely so why such a big difference? must be because its a different rail company0 -

Yes, Nottingham -> St Pancras is operated by East Midlands Trains whilst Newark is Virgin East Coast0 -

Can you give us some more details about the people in your travel group? How many adults/children?
£150 for 3 of you is an awful lot of money. We (2 Adults 2 Children) can normally travel to London and back (from Doncaster) for around £50-£60 if we use a railcard and book in advance.0 -
wow, thats seems cheap. I cant find the £150 now? i can see it for around £105 but i still think thats too much for a 90 min journey
Theres me my gf and my 12 yr old daughter.
11th April 10:32 am = £43, return 12th - 16:15 = £108! ive checked for other times . I know theres different price trains at various times but everytime ive gone to London from Notts its been around the £50 mark just for me but thats wasnt necessarily 3 months in advance and i dont have a railcard thats valid
The National Rail Enquiries website is acting up at the minute0 -
its cheaper at the weekend but im not sure which would be least busy - commuters or cattle class with recreational visitors
Did you mean at weekends Donnysaver?
thanks0
