Not as cheap as a pair of scissors, but just as effective - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005LIMHMK

If you shred anything which has an adhesive backing, the adhesive will contaminate the cutters. Plastic bags and backing have a similar effect: the stuff gets tangled around the cutters of even the toughest shredders. Sooner or later, the shredder is scrap. I know this from experience: the cutters begin to slip, get misaligned, stall and burn out the motor.

This is my shredder, a very strong machine, best I ever had, now 3 years old and going just as well now as when new:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-12-Sheet-Cross-Cut-Shredder-Shred/dp/B0079JM3LO/ref=sr_1_1?s=officeproduct&ie=UTF8&qid=1486680127&sr=1-1&keywords=amazon+shredder

But I would not use it for any adhesive or plastic-backed material, such as the plastic deivery bags that some companies use. I shred mixed documents, packages and mail for a community group. Any address details on any of the substances mentioned are cut up with large, very sharp scissors which have to be cleaned off with meths or spirit at times.

A tip for anyone using any shredder, after a lot of use:
take a clean new sheet of A4 paper and smear a little vegetable oil along the top. Run it through the shredder to lubricate the cutters, this works without leaving lots of oil in the machine. Then run another sheet of new A4 through again. There is no need to directly apply oil to the cutters.
I do this every month and my shredder is still like new.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • Thanks everyone for the helpful tips and advice, I'll look into your suggestions. :)

I just put them in the bin. I fail to see just what is confidential about an address on a padded envelope even the original content was clearly weed, !!!!!!, or penis enlarging cream.
