Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Lainey so pleased that all went as planned yesterday, time for you now.
Its a dull morning, no fog or frost thank heavens, another bad night. OH could not settle, when I did I could not get off to sleep, think it may be a case of seperate beds for a few days....he woke at 5.20 with a coughing fit......please not another session....I do not think I can cope....
Off to Bingham this morning, library, ironmongers, market and then Aldi. I have a small shopping list from my neighbour.0 -
Good Morning chums and <<hugs>> for those who need them, be gentle with yourself lainey and take one day at a time xx
Last night I caught a programme on BBC 4 about the tiny island of Fair Isle, and it was fascinating. Only 57 people live on there and they live a totally different life to probably the rest of us .Absolutely dependant on the weather for virtually everything, yet seem to be extremely happy with their way of life None of the one upmanship of the 21st century, and a great community spirit, well worth a look if you get a chance. Every one seems to have about three or four jobs and they survive on very little cash at all. When the birdwatchers all arrive its a hoot to see a crowd of these dedicated people standing in a line taking photos of the tiny birds, but their arrival is an essential part of the island economy.
Sad part were the children all having to fly off to mainland Shetland to boarding school, but all the children seem to suffer with homesickness and want to get back to their tiny island community, great documentary which I found fascinating.
Well looking out of the window at the moment it looks damp ,dreary and overcast, not at all inviting for a walk so that may go on the back burner until it brightens up a bit. The temperature dropped dramatically yesterday so perhaps winter will be around a bit longer.DGS Ben will be home tomorrow for a few days and I am looking forward to seeing him.
Right, time for tea methinks and perhaps a bowl of porridge to warm me up
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing

Morning all
Lainey glad it all went as well as it could yesterday enjoy your day snuggled up with your books
Wow what a day yesterday it all just went from bad to worse culminating in our main car loosing all power and lights as i drove along a main road so i had to pull off onto a side road in the dark and wait for the rescue truck. Mechanic is coming today its a friend so he will let us know if it is worth repairing or time to let go we do have a small car but with the big holibobs coming up i could well do without
I also broke the strap on my small black across body bag i have had it for years and it is so handy beyond repair i am afraid
So today will be a better dayI am going to sort this house out if it is the last thing i do so with an enforced stay in it is the perfect opportunity
Dinner is pie n mash
Have a great day whatever you are up to and stay warm x0 -
Good morning,
Nmlc thank you for the thread.
Lainey it sounds like your DM had the perfect send off. Glad it all went well.
I have had my prayers answered and am so grateful, I have received a very positive letter from DD and we will meet next Thursday.
Today plan: finally this morning is full of unscheduled time (read: lie-in with breakfast in bed and a book). I really need the rest. DH bless him is providing the breakfast. This afternoon is the last day of work with the boys so before I go there I need to pick up some sweeties as a farewell gift.
Immediately after, I have my shift at the food bank, so won't be home until past 8pm and won't see DH until past 10:30 as he will be doing his class. Migh not even be awake by then!
JackieO I will try and watch the Fair Isle programme on catch up, sounds really interesting, I caught a snippet of it yesterday but DS was visiting so could not watch it. I remember a good few years ago hearing that Fair Isle wanted to attract more people, the requirements were that men should have building skills (tick, DH is an architect and also very good at practical tasks) and the women should be knitters (half tick as I am a really mediocre knitter but reckoned I could have learnt more with practice). I begged DH to give it a go but he would not hear of it. Ah well....
Hugs to all with troubles and sorrows and well wishes to the poorlies. Keep warm!
Have a good day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Jackie last night's prog on Fair Isle was the second, we fell on last week's by accident and it is absolutely enthralling. We quite fancy it but are realistic in that anything wetter than a canal makes me seasick so I could never get there!
Csarina we have been doing separate rooms while my DH has had the coughy cold thing, I feel your weariness over broken sleep!
Lainey enjoy your sofa day
Days off today & tomorrow (only work Mon/Tue/Wed) so need to crack on with a college assignment for my L4 diploma in Professional Admin. Also need to sort the freezers, make a shopping list and run some errands to pick up a parcel & some shears being sharpened. Will make a frittata for lunch, and dig out a pre-prepped pasta bake from the freezer for tea. I tend to make a large one with a full bag of pasta and freeze most in foil dishes, then we get at least 3 meals for both of us and at least 1 lunch for DH out of it.
Just having a quick hot choc before it's back to the assignment - the joys of personal development & learning styles!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hello all
Well made it through the night:rotfl:
Woke up just before 10am and only needed to get up once (loo break). Awoke feeling better but have a thick throat and stiff neck/shoulder.
Not doing much today except cooking tea as my dad is coming. Have managed to fill DW and wipe down kitchen tops.
Cwtching down on the sofa under a blanket as I can't get warm even with the heating on.
Have a good Thursday allFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Hello, I've been up since about 2 after a really nasty dream, that's twice this week. I'm going to try and have a small nap before I start making dough.
LaineyT I'm glad that things went smoothly yesterday, you must be so tired.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
I also broke the strap on my small black across body bag i have had it for years and it is so handy beyond repair i am afraid
Tiredmum - try Timpson the shoe repair place, they also repair bags (sometimes in the shop and sometimes in their Manchester place) - they are brilliant.
My DM has a lovely small across body bag from years and years ago which had a broken zip, not the zip itself but the slider was broken (nowhere to put a grab loop). After contacting their head office I was directed to the local shop where the chappie did a very fast (probably three mins max) repair job. A fiver well spent.0 -
Another day at the teaching coal face done, well perhaps not a day, more like two hours. This time the truculent and turbulent young man behaved himself and we all spent a lovely couple of hours together.
The wind is now coming from the east and so is bitingly cold, I hate the east wind as it gets everywhere, no escape from the nasty cold. Woodburner is on and draught excluders by the bottom of the two living room doors as they have gaps.
I bought more lard on the way home and did the melting and adding sunflower seeds for the birds. They love pecking at pure fat. Now I've got some paperwork to get through though I do have a whole weekend at home for a change.
The Fair Isle and all the others round Shetland are beautiful parts of the world. I've been a few times and always marvel at the way of life and the acceptance of everyday difficulties. Orkney is the same. After being to those places, and others abroad, I always keep them in mind when tempted to complain about stuff. I've only got a bus service once a day in each direction on three days a week, the island folk have to get ferries to work / play / school, and so on.
I live a remote life by choice, others have it thrust on them! Mind you, yesterday I had visitors and then the visitors had visitors (in my house) and then someone else drove past and saw the two cars and they called in too. I'm obviously not remote enough.
Hope everyone keeps warm.0 -
