O/S Daily Thursday 9 February 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, looks dry but temperature really dropped yesterday, don't think we've had a frost though.
DH up stupid early and gone to work, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, we wake hims shortly.
Dinner last night was haggis, mash, carrot, peas and gravy, ice cream for those that wanted some for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure, I have LO beef etc in the fridge but not sure whether to bin it or not - we're having ongoing issues with the fridge/freezer, engineer is booked for today, will see if he can come up with a reason it manages to freeze food in the fridge cabinet when it's set a +4 degrees, not holding out much hope though. I'll need to sort a different dinner if I decide to bin the meat, not very OS I know, but we'll see.
I'm now on days' off, so have all the normal "to do" list - I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society once the engineer has been, by then I will decide what dinner we're having, and can buy items if necessary - this I will try not to do as I'm shopping tomorrow, so would like to have a NSD if possible. I'll be tackling the washing, drying and ironing and housework also.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Cold here this morning again but dry, I can cope with that! I seemed to have loads of washing so that is all done and is hanging about the house on racks.
Lainey - My thoughts were with you yesterday, glad your DMs wishes could be granted and you celebrated her life.
I'm off out tonight with a friend, DD and her BF - we're going to see Still Game Live at the Hydro - these were Christmas present tickets and I'm really looking forward to it. Going for something to eat before hand too, a real treat evening!
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Enjoy your days off. Don't spend it all working, you always sound so busy.
LAINEY I'm glad yesterday went as well as it could do. It's been so long a wait for you. Make some time for you now.
Well Mr TA woke up back to normal yesterday morning so I got my day out with my friend after all. It felt much colder in Skipton and quite a few stallholders hadn't bothered setting up. (Don't blame them!) We had our usual browse of the cs and I stuck to my guns and didn't buy any more books! Oxfam were selling off quite a few of their branded gifts, left over from Xmas. So some pretty bead decorated notebooks are now in my Christmas stash box for stocking fillers. The Ponden Mill Shop had a good sale on and I was tempted by a duvet cover for my newly painted bedroom. A poppy design on a cream background and I just couldn't resist it!
Our lunch wasn't as nice as usual and there was a complete change of staff, So maybe a new chef too. My lasagne was tiny with skimpy bits of garlic bread and M's Hunter's chicken was stringy. Succumbed to a pudding to fill us up and that wasn't up to much either! A big disappointment really as the food has always been good. So on the lookout now for a new lunch spot for next time!
DGD's are still asleep but will be to waken up shortly. Only two of them last night which will make it slightly easier this morning. All three of them back tonight after their swimming/diving clubs. I think it's going to be a big Shepherd's Pie with carrots, peas and swede. And a big jug of gravy. There's just enough of last night's Spag Bol left for Mr TA's lunch, whilst I am trying to get back on the straight and narrow and some sensible LF eating!
Shopping day today, usual Thursday routine. Need to go via the surgery to pick up our scripts. I might just manage with only an Aldi visit today but haven't compiled my list yet. I am hoping it will be another small shop.
Have a good day folks and HUGS to the poorlies, worried and sad. Take care whatever you are doing and wrap up warm. It's forecast to be a cold cold day! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all.
Have a great evening Camelot
Lainey I'm glad your DM had the send off she planned and so many were there with you. take care.
Quick check in from me. Another 5am wake up this morning, but I am off to work early today so must get my skates on.
Have a good day folks.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Morning all,
Brrrr very cold here we are in a cold snap which is meant to last about three weeks ! It certainly is cold, thank goodness for the log burner which keeps us super cosy at night, we have also bought a fan for the top of it which distributes the heat out into the kitchen and warms those rooms too.
Not sure about dinner tonight I think I might do an omelette and bread and butter and salad, nice and quick.
My shopping is coming tonight and I need to put a wash on too.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
No frost today though it's still very cold. Extra layers again.
Yesterday's teaching was a tiny bit fraught because of the same one student, however I've now told him to either shape up or ship up. I'm not going to stand his behaviour anymore so if he doesn't want to do the unit he can sit in the student room instead. :eek:The rest of the group are fine so it'd be better all round.
I've got them again later this morning and then will do a little shopping, just need some blocks of lard to put out for the birds. The back garden is such a quagmire I'll need to put on boots.
My DM reports that, eventually, her main TV is sorted properly. The engineer hadn't retunec when he 'checked' her connection so she was receiving a very weak signal from the Darvel transmitter rather than the closer Blackhill one. All's well now. And she used the folding walking stick for the first time and liked it. Phew!
Lainey - it was lovely to read your moving account of the funeral. Your DM's must have helped make things a bit easier. Well done for getting through it.
Camelot - blooming jealous now! Have a fabulous time.
My day will start soon enough so it's a few more minutes under the duvet. Meanwhile, Happy Thursday to everyone.0 -
Morning all.
Wow what a night! Whilst washing my hair yesterday my Grandson decided to 'help' me by feeding the hounds. Ginge, the gannet she is ate till she was sick. blackun' tried, but being that she's only got a few teeth didn't get very far with the dried kibble Twas like an orchestra in my bedroom last night, Hubby and 2 dogs snoring and trumpet accompaniments. Of course, what goes in, must come out and I've been up and down the stairs like a mad woman all night.
It's bin day and I've got some recycling stuff. The black bin has gone up but the recycling lorry I've missed....and don't talk to me about dog poo. The one day I wanted a hard frost (it's easier to get up) and it's not frosty.
Had weird dreams of hotels lined with gold and a wealthy Arab driving his car down the corridor and a man made beach and sea being made just up the road.
Still, the good news is that the hounds are in no rush for breakfast so won't be clawing on the bed to get me up. Bad news, Ginge I swear has ballooned overnight.
Hubby just woke me by sending me a message. I need to sleep but I've got a mountain of dog poo to get up before the bin men come.
No onwards and forwards for me today,
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone. Thanks to nmlc for starting the thread and hugs to those that need them.
It is a beautiful frosty morning with a thick layer of ice on everything. Lovely to admire but glad I'm in the house in my cosy PJs enjoying a cuppa.
No real plans for today, my sister will pop round for a coffee and a natter at some point and I'll have a catch up call with my manager later this afternoon. If the ice clears I hope to get out with my wheels for a breath of fresh air.
Got lovely news last night that my ex-neighbour had had a little boy so will organise a gift to be sent to them. They were great neighbours and I was so sad when work meant they had to move to the East Coast. Thankfully the family that moved on are really nice as having good neighbours makes such a difference. While I'm well past being broody and not ready to be a gran quite yet I do love a look at all the lovely baby clothes you can get these days so will enjoy a good browse selecting something nice:D
I have LO beans from last night so looking forward to beans on toast for lunch - not had this in agesI haven't organised anything for dinner so something simple like pasta I think- I'll see how my cooking mojo is later.
Hope everyone has a great day x0 -
Lainey, I'm glad your DM had a lovely send off. Take it easy for a few days.
TA, good news about Mr TA. We're up to the Yorkshire house today, it looks as if it will be cold so DH has switched on the heating via the Hive. We may need the log burner on when we get up there.
We had a lovely meal and show last night with DD, DS and respective spouses. DS told us some more details about the death of his colleague. Apparently she was cycling home and had all the hi-vis gear on. The car must have been going at some speed because her bike was broken into two pieces. She was Hungarian, just 30 and married last year. Work started a justgiving page to help her family take the body back home for the funeral and it's already surpassed its £5,000 target. It's so sad.
Things like that put all my petty worries and complaints in perspective.0 -
Morning chums,
Cool morning today but up and at 'em.
I had football yesterday which was good, felt really fit which is probably a product of low-carb diet and exercise 5 out of 7 days a week. Still managed to make a healthy tuna salad for dinner with the left overs for todays lunch.
Been to the gym again this morning and I've no plans tonight. I was meant to attend a word press event thing but I forgot my laptop so that's no use. I'll take the time to make a healthy meal and I'll maybe do some yoga too.
camelot- I've heard good things, enjoy!0 -
Morning everyone,
Have only just woken up, was absolutely shattered last night and still feel quite tired.
Apart from changing the bed and the towels I intend to have a quiet day, its very cold here today so think it's a day to snuggle down and do loads of reading on the sofa!
Have taken some butchers sausages out of the freezer for tea so easy peasy.
Have a lovely time Camelot
Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks x0
