Scanning help please.

Hi all,

I need to email some copies of documents over to my son in Thailand fairly urgently, as wanted to avoid risking postal service due to time to get there and possible loss..

Have an all-in-one HP deskjet 2510 printer/copier/scanner

and my laptop runs Windows 7.

When i hit the "scan" button on printer, the power light flashes slowly for a while, i dont know if i am not leaving it long enough or what, but nothing seems to be getting to laptop.

Had a new hard drive a while back, dont know if its related to that, although i can print stuff off laptop with no problems, so printer and laptop are obviously "talking " to each other ok.

Probably something obvious i have missed < DOH > so any advice appreciated.

Have you Fax and Scan software on your Desktop ?

This will give you control of the process.

Have you lookend in My Documents for any new files with names that start with "scan".

AFAIK i dont have that software.

Has the scanner ever worked?
Could it be a memory problem? Try scanning at lower resolution.

Is supported for USB only


If you only want the drivers (without the Full Software Suite), it is available as a separate download named HP Deskjet Basic Print Driver.

I use LibreOffice and INSERT - MEDIA - SCAN - Select Source, and it does work.

If all else fails, can you not photograph them? We've been setting up a card pay account and the scanner has gone on holiday, so I photographed the documents and emailed them, Sage quite happy.

if you have an android phone install an app 'PhotoScan' by google photos

Just as good as a scanner and much handier

Have you looked at the manual? Here is a link to it, page 25 shows you how to do it on printer/scanner and/or via the software in your pc.
