Revolt card problems

Has anyone had problems with their Revolut card making Amazon payments?
I always top up my Revolut account by the amount of an Amazon order before placing the order. Recently I did this and the payment was shown as 'pending' but then Amazon attempted to take the payment as two separate amounts, each of which was declined due to insufficient funds, so I had to top up the Revolut account to cover these payments.
Apparently Revolut can not split payments so the original pending payment should have expired and then appear as a credit balance on my account but it has just disappeared.
I've been on to Revolut to explain this and can show the top ups but there's no record of the original single payment. They've referred me to Amazon but Amazon have only taken the split payments.
Therefore I have paid double the cost of the order due to the original Amazon payment being 'lost' on the Revolt account and having to make top up transfers to cover the payments.
Any suggestions?

It's hard to understand the split payment thing, and why your balance didn't cover them. Revolut CS can usually see everything that happened. Presumably it was for non-sterling purchase?Evolution, not revolution0

You have not 'lost' the money. If the original authorisation has now dropped off the funds will be available on your card to spend.
It is also difficult to understand why a previously authorised single transaction was debited as 2 separate transactions.
Your post is also contradictory. You say that the split transactions were declined but you then go on to say that Amazon has taken them. Confusing.0 -

The original payment was 'pending' then Amazon attempted to take two separate payments equating to the same amount but they were seen as new payment requestsYou have not 'lost' the money. Amazon frequently do this if they're despatching the items separately.Your post is also contradictory. You say that the split transactions were declined but you then go on to say that Amazon has taken them. Confusing.
As stated, I topped up my Revolut account to cover them after they'd been declined0 -

Well if they frequently do this then you would have been aware of the possibility..
If you have loaded £X to the pre-paid card and only £X-Y has been spent, where has the difference gone? It must be accounted for somewhere in order for the total to correspond to the credits and debits ....If the pending payment has just recently disappeared it may well be that the authorisation has not yet actually expired and it may take another day or two for the available funds to re-appear.
Why don't you get yourself a proper credit card to use on Amazon to avoid such problems in the future? Then funds would be available within your credit limit should this 'frequent' occurrence re-occur.0 -
As Ben says, the pending amount may yet reappear. How many days have elapsed?Evolution, not revolution0

Surprising. If this was ASDA it would not be so surprising.
I'm not saying it never happened but I'm an Amazon Prime member and shop on Amazon for almost everything. They have never pre-authorised the total amount of the order. I have my settings configured to dispatch items as they become available and as far as I know that's the default. So in the case of several items being ordered and there are different dispatch times they will charge for each item separately. So to avoid the problem in future change the delivery setting effectively removing dispatch items as they become available.0 -
Just use a real credit/debit card rather than a pre-paid one?
Prepaid is ok for in person payments, but more problematic for web/phone/postal payments. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I use a prepaid Revolut card because it gives the best fx rates available (buying sterling with euro)0

There is actually only one exchange rate, the interbank rate. The difference is tweaking to provide more or less of a mark-up. If those who issue FX such as Revolut but certainly not confined to Revolut alone were honest the exchange rate would be the same across all providers but with differing fees.
