Harrington Brooks

Hi all

We have had a DMP with Harrington Brooks for over a year. It has been a truly awful experience.

Things have been so bad and their service has been so dreadful that I complained to the Financial Ombudsman. The Ombudsman was less than helpful, making a final decision without having even got the facts right. I am referring the matter to the Independent Assessor.

Regarding HB, how can they get away with such awful service? They ignore specific written instructions and are a total nightmare to try and communicate with. Emails strangely go missing....

Do we have any legal recourse does anyone know please? We pay them for a service which they have failed to deliver.

I ow know about Step Change but want to get sorted with HB before we move.

I would really appreciate any advice as this whole thing has left me actively suicidal. Thank you.

    Hi,

Unfortunately this kind of experiance is fairly common with fee charging debt management companies.
GT are one of the better names in the business, but your still dealing with thieves.

The thing is with a lot of these cowboys, a lot of the time, they fail to pay your creditors, they go bust on a regular basis, there customer service is non existent, and when they do go belly up, they take all your money with them, and you have no chance of ever getting it back, as they are all just another Ltd company.

You've been down the ombudsman route, no surprise your not satisfied with that result, your only other option is to take court action yourself using moneyclaim online, for breach of contract, etc.

And stop waiting to sort things before you move DMP provider - every single month they are probably taking 1/3 of your money that should be reducing your debts!!!!!

It is your choice at the end of the day but the best way to show you are dis-satisfied with a service is to vote with your feet and find another service provider. I cannot understand if you are unhappy with their behaviour already why you would give them any more of your precious money that could either be going towards your debts or towards an emergency fund for youself. If you think you can miraculously get them to offer you a better service by staying that is up to to you but you aren't receiving the service you are paying for (and let's be honest these agencies who charge a fee aren't interested in your debt or you personally)

Every one on here would recommend changing to a free provider of a dmp immediately or go self managed but again the choice is yours. If you aren't happy with the ombudsman's decision then it would be a very expensive battle I am sure to persue it any further. This is money and time that could be better spent

Mrs Tinks is not being judgmental, she is talking plain common sense. Dump them and move to a free charity like Stepchange or Christians Against Poverty, then go after HB.

You can stay where you are of course, and prolong the agony, if you wish.

I'm not judging - I'm telling you that every month you are GIVING away money to someone for a service you are not receiving and should never have been paying for in the first place.

Why are you wanting to stay until this is resolved? It won't change any rights you may have regarding possible refunds/compensation etc - all you are doing it prolonging your DMP and handing over cash you have worked hard for to a company who are delivering nothing for it...

I'm puzzled but not judging :rotfl:

Have to agree with the others on this.

I never judge what others have done, but you are just throwing money away staying where you are.

You can cut all 3rd parties out of the equation, and pay your creditors directly yourself, why pay a fee in return for nothing ?

  • Wow - so much for being non judgemental on this website!

There is much more to this than I have gone in to on a public forum and there are reasons why for another month or maybe two I will stay with HB and then move to Step Change who I have already spoken to for advice.

You don't know all of the facts so please stop making assumptions and snide insinuations about my lack of common sense :( Will definitely think twice before posting on here in future.
