HSBC Advance delays

I applied and was accepted for an HSBC Advance account back on 11th January, and shortly after that I got a letter confirming the new account and a slip which I needed to sign and return before the account could be properly opened. I signed and returned the slip immediately, but since then I've heard nothing from HSBC. I've phoned twice, and the first time the person I spoke to said everything was being processed, but as they sounded very unsure I tried again a few days later, and the person said that my slip had been received and everything was being processed and I could expect a call within a couple of weeks, although that time has now passed as well. I've opened many bank accounts over the years, and it normally only takes a few days for debit card/PIN etc to turn up. Is this HSBC's normal timeframe or does it sound like something is up?

HSBC are reportedly beset with a backlog of literally thousands of applications. The implication is they didn't really think through this current promotion.

You can try going to a branch if you want a quicker answer.
