new build and protected zone/site

Hi,
We've been in our new build for nearly a year a david wilson Home, we we're told we had to use BT as it was a'protected or silver site/zone' ??? after chatting with neighbours who are using Sky for everything?? Im thinking this may not be the case, Has anyone heard of this?

    I've heard of the term (from MSE as it happens), you need to call Sky as they can confirm it either way for you. You could call BT instead but I suspect that you may not get the whole truth.

    Edit: not guaranteed that Sky will have the correct info either I suppose.

    I suspect there's confusion here.

    The developer may have a deal with Openreach to now allow any other network provider to lay cables in the streets for X years. This doesn't mean you have to use BT. You can use any ISP which offers services over Openreach's network.

    Secondly, the "silver" issue is usually related to address matching. Again it's a term BT use when the address doesn't fully match what Openreach have, but it certainly doesn't mean that only BT can provide service.

    If other ISP's don't, can't, or won't order on a silver address match, that's their peoblem, not BT's or anyone else's.
