I had a look and couldn't find the Antenna Power setting on my Pioneer DEH-X8700DAB

Bought the Magnetic Antenna from Halfords, will give it a try inside the Boot area tomorrow. If it doesn't work I suppose I can return it.

How well any radio works depends entirely on the antenna. An antenna wants to be on the outside of a vehicle. The glass ones do work on older cars but not fairly new ones as the glass contains lots of metallic particles to help with UV protection.

It is mentioned on Page 6 of the manual http://www.pioneer-car.eu/uk/products/deh-x8700dab/support

However, not knowing the screen mount aerial make and model we can't be sure it is an active one needing power... like the Pioneer one http://www.pioneer-car.eu/uk/products/ca-an-dab001

Some bits of some windscreens are very opaque to radio signals though... hence the special clear bits to place toll tags.

I know best results will be with the Antenna external, but I don't want the risk of anyone damaging it, and I am supposedly in a good signal area, so how am I likely to get on?

You'll likely get a very good signal with an external antenna.
But try the antenna power setting first.

  • I will give the power setting s go tomorrow.

    Thanks :)

Both FM & DAB lose signal at times, but I reckon DAB loses it more. If you've got a new car & only just got DAB, it seems logical to use it as its "new". However, this is only based on a small mileage.

    Thats not my experience

I drive 100 plus miles a day on average covering 4 counties

Don't happen to have a dashcam do you? They can cause interference with DAB, took me ages to get mine right

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

i've had a DAB radio in my car for 3 years (factory fitted one) live in the sticks and do a lot of driving and very rarely have any issues at all including in areas where i can't get FM like the M6 near Tebay.

do find if i charge my phone with a cheap 12v/USB charger it can interfere with the radio both on FM and DAB

Thanks. Did check for the DAB Antenna power setting, and it was turned on.

I have now installed the Magnetic DAB within the Boot area, and it is either considerably worse or maybe the same than the Windscreen effort when driving about (I will do some more tests, but it just drops out a lot!). Yet seems ok in some places when stationary. Not sure if I should turn the power setting off. But it is magnetically stuck to the rear deck that is made from metal, albeit upside down, but surely this should not be an issue?
