DAB Radio

Hi there

I have a DAB Radio in my Car, Pioneer DEH-X8700DAB along with one of them stick on the Windscreen Antenna things, needless to say it is crap, the signal always drops out constantly!

Rather than chop and drill the bodywork of the Car in question (BMW 1 Series Coupe). I was thinking of getting one of the following:

If I mount it in the boot area, will this likely work any better?

Thanks

  • The D stands for dead in DAB.
Useless in cars and therefore useless to advertisers.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • I would have thought all new cars had DAB these days though?

I've got DAB in my car and it works perfectly well. All depends where you live.
Love having decent radio stations to listen to.

I've also got one of those glass mounted stick on antennas and it works fine.
Where have you mounted yours? I put mine at the top of the windscreen next to the rear view mirror.
Have you checked that the settings are turned on to power the aerial? Those stick on ones need power from the radio unit, so you have to turn it on or they won't work well.

  • I live in Rochdale so not really out in the sticks, so reception should be good. It was flawless on a Roberts Portable DAB radio indoors.

The stick on antenna is placed on the left next to the A Pillar. Near the top of the Windscreen.

    Power from the Radio?

I just fancy ditching this effort and really going for the Sonichi, a couple/few reviews mentioned they had it working within the boot, surely signal won't be worse than it already is, if I do this?

There is no Shark Fin on mine, as the original FM Radio Antenna is built in to the Rear Glass.

I have a DAB radio in my car. I fitted an external through glass aerial on the rear screen. Reception is perfect or near perfect, depending on which station it's tuned to.

    .
Looks through the settings on your radio and find the one that says "antenna power" or similar and make sure it is turned on. If it is then you might as well try and external aerial. Will be better than the stick on one

In terms of sound quality DAB simply can't beat good old FM, plus I can never get local traffic reports to come through regularly whilst defaulted to DAB as my radio source. In fact the only time I'll use it is when Test Match Special is on during the Ashes tests. Apart from that it's pretty much useless.

Why is it useless, I have a DAB and if I listen on FM I constantly have to keep retuning or lose signal alltogether but on DAB i can listen without loosing signal or retuning , thats on radio 2

there are also many channels I cant listen to at all other than on DAB including talksport

Both FM & DAB lose signal at times, but I reckon DAB loses it more. If you've got a new car & only just got DAB, it seems logical to use it as its "new". However, this is only based on a small mileage.

I've never had an issue with DAB in my car. I use it all the time.
