Are Air Miles still worth it? (UK-South Africa)

My wife's friend is getting married in South Africa (Cape Town) next Xmas. We are just about to book flights there (two adults two kids). So far, the cheapest offer is Turkish Airlines for about £800 each, so about £3200 total.

My wallet is quivering at the hit, but the wife is insistent. Is it worth trying to get Air Miles / Cashback on this flight?

We don't have credit cards and fly to the usual cheap european holiday destinations about once a year, and every couple of years one of us has an extra flight to Scandinavia.

There are no downsides to getting this. At worst you'll get some points that you don't use.

    Which scheme do you recommend?

That really depends on your travel habits and which airport you usually fly from. Turkish are Star Alliance members so I'm guessing you can credit miles to any airline in that alliance. Since you mention Scandinavia, SAS might be an option.

Im signed up to about 4 different schemes like Avios, Virgin, Delta and KLM who all have their own reward schemes..... I'm sure at some point in my life the points from either of them will come in handy for upgrades or little extras here and there.

    Regards.
