Teaching an old dog new tricks

No matter how old we are, or how long we have been doing something, we can always learn something new

I for one bought frozen spinach the other day for the very first time, for putting in a curry. I've always used fresh. Wasn't till I read JackieO's thread that frozen spinach even came onto my radar

It worked really well and I only needed two small blocks to replicate a whole bag of fresh

Saving me loads of money :money::money:

What new tip have you picked up that makes utter sense but you hadn't thought of till reading it on here?

cutting a strip off the top of frozen food and then using the strip to tie the bag closed. Cant remember who posted it but it was so obvious I don't know why I didn't think of it myself.

And regrowing veg on the window sill thanks to Meg72:)
  • Write out a weekly meal plan - it's so obvious, but it really saves a lot of 'worrying time' as well as helping with shopping list, and providing opportunity to think out a healthy balanced diet.

Microwaving a cup of tea that had gone cold. Had always thought reheated tea would taste stewed like it had been in a flask, but it doesn't.

I already buy frozen spinach for curries but would add frozen leeks. Great for casseroles and without any of the waste or endless washing to get rid of grit. Farmfoods do a good own brand one.

Ping chopped/sliced onion with tbsp. of water in microwave for 2 mins to soften. Fries up much more quickly for so many dishes that have onion base for sauces and needs less oil.

I'd never bought frozen spinach before I read about it here too

I think my two greatest old style tips are-

    Breaking dishwasher tablets in half
Cooking rice and pasta by bringing the pan to the boil, putting the lid on and turning off the gas. Not only saves fuel but keeps the hob cleaner too
    weaving through the chaos...
