  • Right then, according to my DMP latest statement I owe these creditors (with original creditors in brackets):

PRA GROUP (UK) LIMITED (MBNA Visa)
WESCOT CREDIT SERVICES (RBS MINT credit card)
WESCOT CREDIT SERVICES (RBS Visa credit card)
    PRA GROUP (UK) LIMITED (Barclaycard)
CABOT FINANCIAL (MARLIN) (Northern Rock loan)
    1st CREDIT (OPUS Visa)

Doesn't really help me much though....

  • no one had heard of PPI mis-selling when I start my DMP
Trust me, if your Debt Management started only four years ago then PLENTY of people had heard of PPI mis-selling!

PPI complaints reached an all time peak five years ago.
  • Okay, *I* hadn't heard of PPI mis-selling when I started my DMP...

5 of the 6 are credit cards, each one would have the PPI listed as a separate charge on every statement when you didn't pay the balance off in full.

Ring up the providers and ask what records they have left and if you had PPI

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Well, I don't remember seeing any kind of payment protection insurance but part of me thinks I did have it on a few when I first got accepted for the cards, then rang them up when I got my first statements asking to cancel it as I didn't want/need it - and when they said "but what if you lost your job etc etc....", seem to remember replying I will take that chance if/when it happens.

So, definitely NO PPI/insurance/extra cover showing on my credit cards for at least the last say 10 years, but I did have on a few at some point then cancelled it.

    Still make a claim?

Sorry my head is foggy, no time to ring them up Mon-Fri as at work and on daddy duty all weekend.

Can I write them letters asking what records they had - and if I had PPI with no cheques/payments enclosed?

    Got to go, thank you.

  • And according to the MSE site, this is the letter I can use with my details filled in, but i don't know the original account numbers :(

    [Insert your name
    and address]

    [insert date]
    [insert name and
    address of company
    that sold your
    loan insurance]

    Dear Sir or Madam,

    Account number: [insert account number]

I am writing to request a copy of my original loan agreement with [insert name of lender]. If the original loan agreement does not include details of the insurance added to the account, such as the number and cost of any monthly payments or any lump sum fees and interest charges applicable to this fee, please attach or advise how I can get access to this information.

I look forward to your response within 40 days, as is obliged under the Data Protection Act 1998. If not I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner.
    Yours faithfully,

    [insert your signature]

    [Insert your name (printed)]

  • Can I send them off without any payment included?
    .
  • I am writing to request a copy of my original loan agreement
No, don't ask for the agreement, it's not needed and unlikely to revel any details of PPI.

Your complaint is likely to be time barred if you cancelled it 10 years ago, you have 3 years from knowing there would be an issue (which cancelling counts towards) to complain, up to the banks if they wish to honour the complaint or time bar.

You do not need to request a copy of a loan agreement for a credit card, nor do you need it to make a complaint.

Just go to the link below and complete the form

  • Thanks, but still confused as to what form you suggest I fill in...

From Martin's very own PPI page:

Don't know if you even took out PPI? Check your credit files

Don't feel silly if you don't know – this is the number one question we get, full stop. First, you can try finding out by going back through all your old loan and mortgage statements and checking for any mention of an insurance fee or product to cover your payments if you lost your job through accident, sickness or unemployment.
Look for something that may be called 'payment cover', 'protection plan', 'ASU', 'loan protection', 'retail payment protection', 'loan care' or similar.
If you don't have those documents or simply cannot remember which lenders you've borrowed from in the past, don't worry – you can check your credit report. It lists any loans, mortgages or other debts that were live within the last six years, even if they're now closed

There's nothing showing on my credit file, I use Noddle's free one. Just shows a red default circle against each month going way back over the months - for each card/loan.

    Confused.
