  • Plus I find it interesting that they didnt just send it to the money claim service if they thought they had a solid case they would win easily.
  • Yes did all the usual including the resolver service and was eventually issued with a notice saying we agreed to disagree
  • Hardly seems fair given it was disputed

Maybe it was but your credit history is a true refelction of how you dealt with the Virgin Media issue.

Because money claim is expensive, especially for corporations, so they try not to throw good money after bad. And if you refuse to pay now, you are also likely not to pay after CCJ is issued, so they have to go to the collection - which means, even more, expenses.

And you have a choice now. Either keep your, most likely wrong, position and deal with that account haunting your for years or speak with them and offer to pay off the debt in full, with whatever fines you owe, for expunging it from the record. Pled, beg and cry explaining that you didn't know how the law works and you thought that you canceled it the proper way. It's shot, may work, but most likely won't. Fall back position would be to set the default date to the one of first late payment and to mark it as settled, then it will have less impact.
  • Thanks Arleen for answering my question. I may give that a go.

Unfortunately this is yet another example of utility and phone providers using credit reporting as a form of blackmail: "do exactly as we say or you'll never get credit again". Of course these scumbags should not be allowed to report accounts to CRAs, but given that they are, you might consider reporting this episode to the ICO.

You mean it's bad that people who renege on their obligations are punished in this world? Oh lord, did someone think of the children when creating that nonsense?

Er... but they are not being punished! Virgin Media, the perpetrators, are getting away scot free.
