Sugar Addiction Struggles after 1 year Sugar Free

Thank you all again for the replies.
I have been watching Sugar Free Farm and it was very good. I do remember that last year before Christmas I wasn't craving it really, I was coping really well. Just need to get back to that again I think.
I would love to be hypnotisedI'm going to look into that.
I am a veggie, and have been for 35 years so won't be going down that 'bacon in lard' routeBut I am interested to read what you say about fat. A few weeks ago I had a chat with some ladies at work, and we were talking about eating real butter. Also on Sugar Free Farm they talked about the virtues of eating real butter. So I bought some, and it was FANTASTIC on toast. So I had some more, and more, and more...
I'm just a glutton who can't stop and it's disgusting, but whether it's sugar, or butter, or whatever, I just binge on it? I disgust myself. I tell myself to stop being a pig, but I cram more and more into my mouth like there is no tomorrow  How pathetically embarrassed I amSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Thank you ladies, oyu talk a lot of sense
I think you are right, it was the cake what done it
I've been having a long think. Maybe one day, I'll be able to reintroduce some sugar in the way of a little bar of Milky Bar for example at the end of the day, but at the moment I am not in that place.
Before Christmas I was fine. I was feeling proud of myself, and happy to be thin and smug that I had 'kicked the habit'. I think I am catastrophizing and turning it into a huge deal that it doesn't need to be. I need to get a grip
As for the apricots and dates, smashing idea, I have had them in the cupboard and had a little nibble, trouble is I'm such a greedy pig that it's soon all gone and then like you say dried fruit is a killer.
I wish I would binge on carrot sticks instead, but they just don't hit the spot
I feel better anyway, thank you for being kind enough to post :A
Why not start by introducing a small piece of fruit occasionally rather than going for something as sweet as dried apricots?0 -

I'm the same. I like (own brand) special K red berries. But can't just eat one bowl, or just have it for breakfast, I an easily eat four bowls in a day. And nothing else, which kick starts a tumble into bad habits.
Or a few months ago I tried a new type of bread for sandwiches and ate the whole pack of ham and half the loaf.
Even when I'm doing well I struggle with portions, I think it's because I live alone and so much food is packaged for two or three people. So instead of say, having a marinated chicken breast two days running I end up having both one day and all the veg the next.
Sorting out my eating habits is always towards the top of my list of things to get help with but something else always jumps over it. (I have mental health problems anyway).SaveUnless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Have you thought about returning to slimming world? If you did so well on it before then the syns may help you curb the cravings?
I really feel for you...I struggle with chocolate etc but it must have a grip on you for it to be making you so unhappy 1 year later. To manage a year is amazing and you should be feeling very proud.0 -
Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to reply, it's really helping to make me feel better. This site never fails to amaze me with the supportiveness of people
When I said I'd been sugar free, I didn't mean I hadn't had any fruit. I eat fruit every day, without the sweetness of that I think I'd top myselfI do eat a lot of it, but the SW principles worked for me and they said it was unlimited so I'll stick with that because I know I can lose that way.
Even though I was Sugar Free all of last year, I did still follow SW with regards to the HEB and HEA malarkey so again, I know if I stick to that it does work, and OI do lose it. I'm fine until the evening, then I start feeling sorry for myself, and off I go, nom nom nom
But, I've been to Sainsburys, and I've got lots of fresh fruit and veg for the week ahead. If I can get a few days under my belt I'll be ok, and that will soon turn into a few weeks, and then I'll be well away again.
And this time, I WILL BE SATISFIED WHEN I 'GET THERE' AND NOT KEEP STRIVING FOR AN IMPOSSIBLE WEIGHTSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Have you ever read this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Getting-Better-Bit-Sufferers-Disorders-x/dp/0863773222? If not I'd recommend it.
I suffer from bulimia related bingeing so can relate. I find that the best strategy for me is to try and put the eating off by say 5 minutes at first, then extend to 10 minutes, 15.....keep distracting and tell yourself okay if it gets to an hour and I still feel as much in need of that fix then fine, but just wait, and in the meantime try to think about whether it is really sugar you want or if it's some kind of emotional need. Good luck to you xx0 -
THANK YOU fellow sufferer. I shall order it tomorrow xxxSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

I was just wondering do you use sugar free alternatives biscuits, sweets and chocolates as treats at all.
I know they are quite expensive so they really do end up been treats and there is debate to how healthy sugar alternatives are but they may allow you to have a treat without trigger the guilt factor and help you keep up all the good work you have already done.
Some examples are
Slim fruits sweets

Diablo do biscuits, sweets and chocolate that are all sugar free

These are just a couple of examples i've seen popcorn sold in Morrisons and different brands sold in Boots and so on,so there are plenty of different options out there.
I would also suggest that carbs in the white bread are what you crave rather than the butter, it might be worth considering swapping your carbs to brown bread, brown rice, ect if you can
and generally lowering your carb in take.
Also distracting yourself as it seems you know when you are over eating, could you perhaps try doing some exercise as a distraction, even just going for a walk might help.
Good luck with your weight lose journey and don't punish yourself if you have a bad day, just get back to been good the next day.For thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. I read this thread with interest.
I would like to say a big well done to you for what you have achieved so far. I have picked up on the fact that you are quite hard on yourself . Personally I think hypnotherapy is well worth the money. I went to see one for insomnia and after some very gentle questions from the hypnotherapist I realised there was other 'stuff' that needed addressing. I ended up a blubbering mess but it enabled the therapist to tailor the hypno sessions to suit me as a whole person ( if that makes sense).
After 2 sessions my quality of sleep was much better and was more focused / calm in other areas of my life. Best £100 I've ever spent but I appreciate that this is only my opinion.
Good luck0 -
Gosh that is interesting, there is DEFO 'other stuff going on'
and has been for years. It's 30 years this year since the 'incident' that kicked my eating disorder off, and I don't want to carry on being a loon for the next 30 years so I want to sort myself out now! I would really like to be hypnotised, so I am going to look into it for sure.
I've order two books from the library about the issue so hopefully they'll be in next week.
I don't have any 'fake' treats no. I've tried no 'artificial' foods at all in the last year. I eat mostly veg, eggs, healthy brown carbs, fruit and beans. Of course, when I'm on a binge that all goes out of the window and I eat white bread, dried fruit, crisps and other yuck. But I do feel focused this evening.
It's eight weeks until we break up for Easter so I could be back to my pre binge weight by then if I try.
Bingeing is common isn't it? It's a dirty secret though, I don't know anyone else who has ever admitted to me that they do it, but there must be loads of us out there?Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D
