  • According to me having some quantity of sugary item or say cake is not bad. We must try to eat less sugary items as you can. There easily raise the sugar level and also increases the body fat which is not good for health
  • I think you should eat some sugar... your text has gone a horrible pale green colour.
  • Just found this thread thinking I might find some frugal low sugar recipes. Doesn't look like anyone has been on here for a while.
I've been 'sugar free' ...or more accurately low sugar for 4 and a half years now. It's the only way I can be in control of my diet. If I eat anything processed it's under 12gm sugar per 100gm, occasionally I will go up to 14g.
This week to be frugal, and because I can't find low enough sugar ones to buy, I have made my own chocolate covered coffee beans with 90% cocoa chocolate. Really nice, and believe me you only have a few as they are strong.
I've slipped a bit recently with my diet, though my sugar has remained low. I was eating a lot of carbs training for a 40mile hike. Want to get back into my size smaller clothes. It will save me money as I will then have double the wardrobe that fits. I'm a 10 at present, don't hate me, I was bigger before slimming world and then reducing sugar.
Anyone else out there 'quit sugar or hoping too? Would be happy to swap tips.

Sweets, jams, icecreams with sweetness substitutes ,according to Diabetes UK, are worse for you than sugar and can give you bowel problems. Even the tiny boiled sweets sold by Aldi and the ones no longer sold by Tesco (they did yummy sherbet lemons)have a warning about eating too many, but sometimes you can make do with two,as they last a long time.

Some of the books claiming to cut out sugar are nonsense when they substitute honey which is still a form of sugar.

I think you eat less bad for you snacks if you are occupied .I find that getting engrossed in a puzzle, computer game ,good book or playing with grandchildren helps with distraction and the latter distracts the children from sweets ,too.(I sometimes forget to eat at all).
  • I agree teddysmum. Sweetners are not the answer. I've stopped having diet drinks now and go for water.
