eBay - Messaged with offer for cash on collection

ebay is a strange place sometimes.
I listed the folding mechanism from a sofa bed(it was as new only slept on twice). I listed it a couple of times. Had some interest but was not the required size.
It did not sell. However, a long time after I was messaged out of the blue asking if I still had it and how much would I let it go for.
They came, loaded it into their car and asked me if I had the mattress for it which I did so I sold that to them as well.
Cash on collection is great!0 -
How did Ebay know why you cancelled? As per my recent thread, I got a warning for this recently which is sitting somewhere on my account.
I had a buyer contact me and say they were basically on their way and could they collect my item and pay cash- my listing was BIN with immediate payment required so they couldn't buy in advance. They arrived , paid cash and I cancelled the BIN listing and got a warning for selling outside of ebay a few days later.0 -
BTW - CASH on collection. Not cheque, not paypal in advance, CASH on collection is fine (assuming you can spot a dud note if you see one - may be worth getting a basic tester, or borrowing one from a pub).0

The buyer had sent me messages beforehand saying he was desperate for my item and could he collect immediately as he was out in the car. All those messages went through ebay plus the ones where I explained I couldn't seem to remove the immediate payment required option and would not be happy to release the item if buyer used the BIN and paid by paypal.
Why ebay checked the messages I have no idea, perhaps it was random or perhaps they just hate me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Simple answer is "Bots", every eBay message is checked over by complicated software so that eBay can spot an off eBay transaction.
They seem to have spent a lot of time, effort and money on it because it seems to work.0 -
