Ringing Orange to Orange (UK to Spain)

I'm off to Lanzarote next weekend with OH.

We are both on Orange and both have each other as one of our magic numbers.

If I leave my mobile phone here for my Dad (he is having the children for the week for me, bless him :)) and he rings OH's mobile, will I get charged or not?

Yes, at the rate noted on their website for calls to Spain.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • If your dad is using your mobile (from UK) to ring your OH's (UK) orange mobile in Lanzarote then the charges on your mobile will be exactly the same as normal. However, your OH will be charged for the incoming part of the call. See oranges web site for receiving calls whilst abroad.

Good things come to those who wait......... but the best will be taken by those who got there first ;)

  • Have a look at this thread

I've signed up with them and have been dialing a spanish mobile and my parents english mobile whilst they're in spain. I haven't got a bill yet so can't be 100% sure but checking my account on the orange website the minutes do seem to be coming off my monthly allowance :j

dmg24's post is wrong, and charlotte is correct - now about 18 or 20 pence a minute for the incoming calls.

You can only avoid or reduce the incoming roaming charges by getting a Spanish SIM or with add-on options on O2 or Vodafone UK.

Noodle would probably only be worthwhile if the phone left at home is a contract one and if you got a Spanish SIM.

If payg, then instead of the Orange roaming cost you might get O2's Chosen Country - Spain option. £5 gets a month of free incoming calls over there, and outgoing 25p/min. Or get a Spanish SIM. Either way, then get your dad to call you probably from the landline instead using cheap calls providers, such as Call 18185 or others you can find in the MSE Callchecker - about 6p UK mobiles, 8 or 9p Spanish ones.

If you need to make quite a few other outgoing calls from Spain, then I can add a bit more ...
  • I use a Spanish Orange PAYG sim, which I purchased from ebay, while I am in Spain. I pay €0.60 (£0.35p) per minute to phone a landline the UK, €0.10 to phone within Spain. Texts to the UK are about €0.10 ( £0.055p). Calls to UK mobiles are not that much more expensive. The sellers include English instuctions, and the sim is usually set to the English settings, which is handy if your Spanish is not up to scratch. Orange Espana have also inherited the old Amena English speaking customer service. Toping up the sim is as easy as here, as well as having ATM where you can buy a top up card.

    Thanks :)

Just needed it confirming that I won't get charged anything....OH said the same as you, but I wasn't sure.
