The cancelled insurance and the CCJs will limit the insurers who will quote you. That is likely why it's high.

Plus it also depends on where you live / type of vehicle etc.

And the fact that insurance does rise each year with IPT etc.

Insurance providers will always offer the most competitive quotes to those that they deem to be low risk.

With a recently cancelled insurance policy and two CCJ's. You will not appear to be their ideal customer, so any quotes are likely to take this into account.

    Hi Mitchel,

I am afraid the other posters have really hit the nail on the head. The only thing I would add, (sorry to add more bad news but) if that if the car is currently uninsured, make sure it is declared as SORN (off the road).

If the car is not SORN and has no insurance, it could be impounded, crushed and there are financial penalties as well. The gov.uk website explains what you (and the DVLA) can do - https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/uninsured-vehicles. Good luck,

How did you losing your job result in your car insurance being cancelled by the insurer?

Had to cancel it because he could not afford it?

But op stated that the insurance company cancelled the policy- at least that is how I got the feel for the post.

If your insurance company cancelled the insurance for non-payment then this will severely effect any new policy - that's why they ask you to declare if you have ever had any policy cancelled or withdrawn (I forget the wording) - if you don't declare it they penalize you even harder... ditto any claims.

The CCJ's will impact you where you pay monthly because you are taking out a credit agreement - you should see this being less of an issue if you can pay upfront for your policy as this should open the market up more hopefully.

As a side note, as CCJ's affect the price, do defaults?
