I have just started growing my own veg on my kitchen windowsill, and hopefully (if I dont kill it all before I can harvest!!!) this will save some money.
No food miles, watered with rainwater, and no product packaging!
Used recycled margarine tubs to grow them in, so no expensive plant pots!
Hope it works, I am not known for my green figures:rotfl:mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0 -

My sin must have been too venal for the system:
Given that low cost flights are quicker and cheaper than the lower carbon alternatives, it was left speechless..
Perhaps I should try it on "Couples with more than two children are wrecking the planet" ?0 -
Totally off topic, but am I the only one who thinks of the Incredible Hulk when they read this thread?
He got his strength from the forces of nature and turned green0 -
Did not have the option of disposable nappies when my 3 were little.
However 26 years on I do know that there are still 24 nappies being used for mopping up grandchildrens faces, dusting and assorted other uses.0 -

Its not hard to go green just takes a bit of human effort! If you can walk or cycle do it not just to save money it keeps you fit and helps the environment with noise and pollution.
we shop on a regular basis buy food fresh only the amount we need to reduce wastage and also if you are carrying it home you tend not to buy unnecessary items!
We do all our washing on economy7 which works out at about half the price of normal electricity. We don't own a dishwasher. We use energy efficient lightbulbs and if not in use/essential my motto is switch it off.
I feel these are only small steps but if eveyone walked somewhere instead of driving. Stopped unnessary wastage and thought about their carbon footprint the country would be in a better state.
I find the forum very interesting Reading the comments/ tips from like minded people keep up the goodwork!0 -
Bearing in mind how much children cost it has to be MSE not to have them (unless you are planning on living off them once they turn 18:rolleyes: )
I also think a much reduced population would be so much better for the environment, just think of all the agricultural space, no need for more houses, less cars.... I'm not suggesting nobody ever has children again (although if nobody in the UK had children we could probably prosper with immigration) but maybe if every couple had one or even if there were only the true "accidents".
Now if only I could think of an ethical way to force people to share my point of view :think:0 -

It would be the logical solution, however it is an emotive subject and many people will disagree with it.0
