O/S Daily Thread Saturday 4th February

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning folks.

Hope you don't mind me starting us off...I've been up for about an hour already!

Just another thanks for my well wishes yesterday. It was a difficult day all round and it was lovely to see all the support from you lovely lot when I eventually logged on in the evening :A

Nothing O/S achieved yesterday though :o and dinner ended up being an uninspiring but large bowl of tagliatelle and peas in butter, olive oil and a liberal grounding of black pepper.

No plans yet for the rest of the day, I will take the day as it comes.

First up though is a cup of tea....

Enjoy your Saturday everyone..I hope it's happy and stress free for one and all.

    Take care :)

    Morning

karcher - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, but air feels colder than it has been, forecast says it should be dry and bright - we'll see. Yesterday turned out to be a bright sunny day.

DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas - he's going into work, I'll go into town to visit building society. I'm enjoying first peaceful cuppas whilst on here, I went to bed early last night as I'd had a fuzzy head most of the day, paracetamol didn't touch it, so I took some ibuprofen, that did help but still didn't get rid of it, it just dulled it a bit, so decided an early night might help, and I've slept very well and no headache this morning. I woke yesterday suddenly, and think that was the cause.

Dinner last night was HM chinese, we had duck and pancakes, prawns in black bean sauce, mushroom chow mein and veg fried rice, with wontons, pancake rolls, prawn toasts and sweet chilli dip, all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight will be pizza, breaded chicken portions, salad, curly fries and pasta salad/coleslaw etc.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive again, continued with the last bits of washing, basket had been empty, then was half full again! Did the ironing, some more sorting paperwork and shredding. The food shopping bill came to more than I'd hoped, I buy very little meat in MrA**ee as I don't like it, had several lots in the past where the meat was just not nice, so have been through my receipt to check the prices, even in there prices are rising, and not just to reflect the issues in Europe with the salad and veg at the moment - but I'm sure it's still cheaper than most mainstream SM's - having said that iceberg lettuces yesterday were £1.19 in MrA**ee, but in Morries they were £1.17. I bought little gem lettuces instead. I didn't get any baking/cooking done, may do so this morning.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

One of my hounds woke me half an hour ago to be let out and I can't get back to sleep.

Busy day for me. I've got my Grandson this morning. His Mummy is off bridesmaid shopping (she'll be 7 months pregnant at the event....oh dear). He's not very well so I'll expect him to be miserable and whiney.

Not sure if we will make shopping. I'm expecting Prodigal this morning too.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning folks and thanks KARCHER for starting. I hope you feel a bit less upset today. It's another mild start and I was kicking the duvet off all night.

DS called up yesterday afternoon after a doctor's appointment and ended up staying for tea. I had to have a rethink as the two pots of pasta sauce I had left out for tea wouldn't stretch to three! So that went back in the fridge and is now for tonight instead! We all had fish instead! The new romance is still going strong and DS is a different person since the split with the toxic one. DD says I feel I have got my brother back and we feel we have got our son back. The toxic one was driving a wedge between us all.

It's the memorial/celebration of her life of DD's friend this afternoon. The idea has grown and grown and now almost 100 people are promising to attend. That's one big buffet to prepare. Apart from her three children she had no relatives at all but, in the absence of a funeral, old school friends, newer friends, neighbours and ex workmates want to come and show their respect. So many friends wanted to support her and help her through her problems but she shunned all help and died tragically. So very sad.

No other plans for today as I expect we will be there most of the afternoon. Take care all and HUGS for all the poorlies, sad and anxious. Have a good day if you can xx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Karcher, I hope that you are feeling better today and your anger has dissipated a tad.

Not too bad here weather wise, it was very windy in the night which woke me up a few times but managed to get straight back to sleep so not too bad this morning. Apart from bread and milk I haven't done much food shopping lately and we have been eating out of the freezer but stocks are getting low so that's my main job for today. I will be interested to see how prices are going, listening to the media you would believe that there is no fresh veg to be had anywhere, I like to eat what's in season as much as possible so not too worried about lack of iceberg lettuces.

TA I hope that this afternoon goes as well as possible and that it's a fitting tribute from all her friends.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning from a rather damp Glasgow.

Today will be taking my DM on her shopping expedition. She is really so much better, it's lovely to see. I got her registered on STV as she wanted to see The Unforgotten on the laptop. I got apologetic emails from the project manager about the TV problems. Doesn't really help but it's not the end of world. I'm just angry as they were in the close and reconnected three other people and just didn't bother with my DM.

Anyhoo...after shopping I think I'll take a wee trip into town again, just to walk around and see what's new. CATERINA - i thought of you yesterday as I drank a coffee in the Virgin Lounge! May do the same today.

    Hugs to all, happy Saturday.

Morning all, thank you for starting us off Karcher and I hope today will be a better day for you.

Yesterday was lovely in the morning so I had a good walk and saw katkins. Plus ducks, gulls, pigeons and various birds. It rained in the afternoon but I had things to do indoors. I had dismantled my ancient D*son vac, cleaned it as far as possible and washed the filters so I remantled it and it picks up better. I do the filters regularly but don't mostly take it apart. Poor old thing is probably on its last legs (wheels) but it still works.

Son is off dog-sitting for his friend, unfortunately nobody remembered to tell me until I was halfway through prepping for a HM Chinese meal, so I'm having his egg fried rice and veg for lunch, OH ATE his spare ribs. A massive rack of them, I ate 2, he ate up all the rest, possibly making the best of the chance because son is a proper carnivore. I don't eat much meat, so 2 ribs was more than enough for me.

OH has gone to do the shopping, early as he thinks people will be panic buying vegetables and although we have no need to panic buy, we do eat a lot of veg so he doesn't want to find that all that's left is a wizened carrot and no broccoli, which son eats all the time. Also he likes to get the week's veg in one go, no wasting petrol for a second trip.

We are awaiting the electricians who are meant to be here 'first thing' just as they were meant to be here on Monday. We'll see. At least we can have baths. If they want to look at the cabling they did along the outside of the house last year (I can't recall why, some sort of regulatory compliance for the shower) they will need to use a ladder and climb over the gate unless they are small and lithe like my old man, and climb out through the window since the back door is not openable.

I hope thst everyone has as good a day as possible and that the ceremony goes well TA

ETA OH is back, went to Mr M where there was no panic buying going on, not even mild unease buying.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning all
I had a lie in, I've only just got up, we had a DGC free night last night, we have DGS tonight instead, his sister is having a sleepover so he will be here to escape six excitable 8/9yo girls.
Not sure what our plans are today, my L&M suggested a trip to the huge Mr S, it will be hell on wheels, I will suggest we just stay home and have a row here instead. I hate shopping, he likes it but then gets annoyed with the lack of parking/volume of shoppers on a Saturday.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Good Morning chums I was up at out before the streets were aired this morning and managed to snaffle a bag of fresh spinach for tomorrows brunch. No lettuce though in S.bobs or M&S. Mr T wanted to charge £1.25 for tatty looking romaine ones that last week were 70 I'd rather do without than give in to profiteering .I am trying to imagine what sort of person needs three lettuces at a time (apart from a cafe I suppose ) :) Still I shan't expire if I can't have a lettuce for a short while.I remember the days of when lettuce was only available during summer months anyway No lettuce in February isn't too much of a hardship :):):)
I do hate it when people panic buy because chances are it will end up in landfill
Looking forward to my DGS and his wife coming tomorrow morning .Only spent a pound this morning from my food purse so still have £59.00 left for the month :):):)
Have a good day chums and keep dry and warm if you can

    Morning all,

Damp and drizzly here, wm is on but it will have to go in the TD today, we are just waiting for the log man to arrive and I have sausages in the oven to make him a sausage sandwich.

We need to go and get some bits from the shop later I think we will try asda as they have washing tablets on half price so I will get a couple of boxes.

DD stayed over at a friends last night and is going with her dad to get her tyres n her car checked as one of them has a slow puncture.

Will get something for dinner while out I have an urging for southern fried chicken and coleslaw etc.

Need to have a tidy round and more washing to do.

I had a horrible day at work yesterday, where our overall manager publicly thanked my manager for doing a job that I had done which took months of work, I really put my heart into it, so was very upset, Ive lost the passion for the job now :(

TA hope today goes well xx

    Karcher hugs to you

    Have good days all xx
