Was this bought before 14th January 2005?

If yes, then you give up as that makes it pre-regulation.
If no, then you complain to the person that sold it to you.

Royal Sun Alliance have no liability for policies sold by third parties, such as brokers.

The issue is not over the product. It is over the sale of the product. Sun Alliance didnt sell it to you. So, they are not responsible for the sale.

You complain to the firm that sold the policy. However, as you bought in 2001, this would most likely mean it is pre-regulation and the firm that sold it will not be required to consider the complaint unless they were a GISC member (most were not - tended to be larger firms)

I have the paperwork in front of me regarding my fathers loan. The policy states:

    Unemployment Cover

If you are self employed and wish to make an unemployment claim, your business must have stopped trading or be in the course of being wound up.......

    Exclusions

We will not pay any unemployment claim:

If you are self employed and your business temporarily stops trading

I'm confused here. Can anyone help? The loan was dated 17/05/2001

    Thanks in advance

It was bought 4 years prior to regulation.

It clearly states that the company must be wound up rather than stops trading temporarily. As such, your father was indeed covered for full unemployment.

However, you could argue that the terms were too onerous and so the policy was mis-sold.

Why are you still asking about this? You originally posted this thread in February and it's now the end of May...

Thanks for your comments. I've only just found the paper work. I guess then that there's no claim to be made
