PPI Claim

Options
My dad passed away in 2009 and looking through his paperwork recently he had been missold PPI as he was self employed which did not cover self employed people. Will we still have a claim for this as we have all the paperwork?

You would have to have valid reasons for mis sell, some PPI covered self employed.
As you are claiming for a deceased person, the reasons for mis sell have to be spot on as you don't know what the reasons for mis sell would have been as it is not your policy and your Father cannot elaborate.

You need to confirm the PPI did not cover the self-employed and/or was considered too onerous to claim on before you make a complaint.

There is a fair chance due to the time frame it will be time-barred so just be aware of that.

Remember also you cannot use phrases like "he was told xyz" because you were not there (only he or say someone with him during the process) could have used such phrases

as he was self employed which did not cover self employed people.

Have you checked this or are you just assuming it?
A lot of PPI does cover the self employed perfectly fine. Some does not. So, it is a potential reason if applicable.

Yes it definitely says it doesn't cover self employed people
  • Only recently joined so sorry if this is in wrong place.
A few months back, stupidly allowed a claims company to investigate ppl.
Came back some time later to say could not do anymore unless I could provide mor information regarding dates and account numbers which I couldn't so did not return the forms.
Now been in touch saying I need to return forms as my bank saying they have ppi showing.
As they said they could do nothing without further info, I decided to check out myself and money is owed.
Appreciate I should have done this to start with but didn't.
Will my bank inform them that there is a payout coming to me?
As they said they could do no more, can I still be expected to pay them?
Surely if they were going to recover anything they would have done it.
Now saying if I have not returned forms I could be in breach of contract.
As I initially returned forms and they said they could do no more I felt justified in looking into it

If you signed a letter of authority, then yes, you owe them.

Once they send you a bill, make sure you pay it promptly.

Might as well try a complaint just bear in mind it'll probably be timed barred and if not, bonus

Use the normal complaints process (you don't say if it was a loan or credit card for example)

It sounds like you had cover for something (guessing a mortgage) and complained to the lender, not the provider of the cover hence why they rejected it.

I'm guessing it was a mortgage in which case if you feel it was miss-sold, complain to the place where you bought the policy.

You complain to the seller of the policy. Not the bank or the insurer (unless it was one of their employees)
