OneDrive Help Please

Options
When using Windows 10, and in file explorer. Then I drop documents into the OneDrive icon on the left column. So far so good, it drops into OneDrive folder but it does not go up into the cloud. How can I get those files to upload into the cloud. All the tutorials seem to say it does it automatically.

Have you checked the onedrive settings?

Right click the little cloud icon in the hidden icons on the right of the toolbar.

Big mistake using Onedrive, Microsoft reduced free capacity to just 5gb, first thing I do is rip it out of Win10.
The fact that you don't like W10 and OneDrive doesn't have as big a free storage as some others doesn't make it a 'Big mistake'.
It is actually a very good service for those that use windows. It doesn't stop anyone using other good services like Box, Dropbox or google drive.
As for Mega.nz, I'm not sure I'd trust it at the moment until the hacking debacle reaches a conclusion. However, I declare that as a personal opinion.;)

  • Thanks for all your help. Somehow I managed to click Business onedrive so I have uninstalled it and reinstalled onedrive. It works fine now.

I'd disagree to be honest. I use it because I get a huge allowance free and I filled my Dropbox account. But with Dropbox I never worried, I'd put a file in the folder and know I could access it anywhere.

Onedrive is so temperamental (and slow to upload) that I have to check and double check that the file has actually been uploaded. And I'm regularly closing and reopening it when it gets stuck looking for changes. It also doesn't seem keen to upload files when they are open which is frustrating.

It seems pretty resource hungry too and I regularly find it using a large proportion of the CPU doing who knows what.

Not had any of those problems with it to be honest. Any files put into the folder are there whenever I need them on another PC or on the phone. It certainly hasn't ever 'stuck' when I use it.
What would you define as a large proportion of the CPU?

I regularly find it using ~25% CPU which I presume is all it has access to.

But i have the problem across multiple computers so I can't see how it can be anything other the OneDrive itself that's to blame. It's happened to me again where I wasn't vigilant and I've got to work to find it's managed to add the folder I created last night but not upload the few small files that I added...grrr.

Thats certainly not normal behaviour ..

Have you scanned for malware ? Something could be constantly trying to write to the drive.

I'm pretty confident that it's not a malware issues, but I will run scans on my home machine tonight. My work machine hasn't had any issues identified.

It may just be that my home machine is old and useless and ready for the bin really (I have had issues with both though). What seems to happen is it gets stuck looking for changes and this is when the CPU usage goes up. I'll maybe spend some time troubleshooting when I get a chance.

But I have on multiple occasions given up trying to get stuff to upload onto OneDrive and resorted to Dropbox.

You know how it is, it's always in the morning when I'm running late, I've forgotten to deal with it the night before, and want to run through a presentation on my phone while commuting... OneDrive has been called everything under the sun.

I feel your pain, it does need to be reliable for your usage. You say you've tried it on multiple computers with the same result? If so this would suggest it's not just your PC setup.
Do you sign in to OneDrive via a web browser and upload directly or use the app? Do you have the same problem either way?
