I may be out of date, but measuring the prescription of lenses didn't used to be something that opticians could easily do on site. I wonder if Boots didn't measure them or try all that hard to work out if they did indeed match the prescription, once they had checked that that was correct.

Always been easy to check on site. However I agree I would be reluctant to problem solve someone else's mistake without payment.

Its a bit weird you having a +1.25 ADD mid 30's you are 10 years to young for that really!. So really I would probably start again elsewhere and consider varifocals if really needed at you age.

Some people are very sensitive to small changes and are not as suitable for getting specs made online as their is little control of the centration.

High index will make no difference to the thickness with your prescription but will give you the strength in a rimless. High index is actually a disadvantage for low prescriptions as the aberrations are worse with polycarbonate bring particually nasty I would only use that for safety work

My money is on them testing with a chart at 3m rather than 6

You mean the test chart was physically 3m away? It was...

Yeah, my body is pretty stupid, almost nothing works right. Where would you recommend for a good eye test?
  • How can I ask Boots for a refund? The prescription seems to be correct, it's the glasses which I had reglazed online (MSE recommendation, and to be fair it was much cheaper) that seem to be wrong. The problem is that the staff at Boots can't seem to figure out what specifically is wrong.

I'll try contacting regalzemyglasses to complain that the lenses they have provided are wrong.

I just complained vociferously until they gave me my £400 back and all my glasses changed for free after an absolute farce getting my prescription sorted. It may be relevant to note that apparently Boots don't measure the fit vertically unless your prescription is +5.00 or more, only horizontally. This was the only explanation they could come up with for the umpteen attempts to sort out my glasses (3 pairs of readers and 1 for distance). My first eye test was either wrong or the poor standard of glasses made my prescription deteriorate within 3 months as I then ended up with a new prescription. The right lenses of all four pairs of my glasses were incorrect and blurred - I thought I was going mad! On obtaining a second opinion, 2 pairs weren't measured correctly (as mentioned).

So yes, just complain and complain and complain. I also threatened them with Trading Standards, which did the trick. As it happens, my eye test with Specsavers is now due and I will probably take up their offer of a £10 eye test just to see whether my prescription/glasses are now right.

Since Boots didn't make your glasses they have no responsibility to find out what is wrong with them.

Your only comeback is with who made them.
  • My main concern is not so much the money, although ReglazeMyGlasses have indicated that they will do a full refund as part of their 30 day money back guarantee. I just want to be able to see properly.

lol didn't even think of that, until you mentioned it I forgot how easy it was to change the testing distance on the refractor head and not realise until the results made no sense. Hospital work is a snellen chart and a mirror on the wall, for some reason I don't miss my gadgets.
  • I've arranged a test at another place that was recommended to me. I'll compare it to what Boots say.
  • I had another test. Seemed better than the last one.
Eye Sph Cyl Axis Prism VA
    Right -0.25 -0.75 90 - 6/6-
    Left +0.25 -1.25 105 - 6/6-

    Near +0.75 add

They recommended a type of varifocal, with distance at the top and the reading magnification at the bottom.

I think I'll have to just try it. My main concern is that they still won't be right for computer screens at about 60-100cm away. The lenses were £230 with a blue-cut coating.
  • I should add that they think the basic problem is that due to chronic fatigue my eyes have trouble focusing on closer things so some magnification would help.

Interesting that as well as being milder than Boots for general use, their reading addition is half as much.
