New User appeared on my pc

I have just worked out what it is, but am baffled, as this is a completely new occurrence.

My husband has a Toshiba laptop - has had it for the past 5 or so years - and we both use the same internet connection.

When his laptop is using the internet, the TOSH-USER comes up. When he comes out of the internet, it goes.

We have never tried to link the two, and I have not seen the TOSH-USER on my pc before. This is a completely new occurrence - perhaps caused by one of the microsoft updates?

It is just a setting on Windows that allows a PC to broadcast to other PC's on the same LAN that it is there.

I always disable this broadcasting myself but I like security locked down.

When you joined that network (the one on your broadband router) you would have been presented with a choice of what type of network it was (Home, Work or Public), the choice you made can affect what is broadcast.
