I noticed today that a new user has appeared on my pc and I'm worried.

It normally just says GILL-HP but an extra one has appeared saying USER-TOSH.

It asks for a password and username, and there is an option for remote access, which worries me.

I can't work out how to remove it.

Can anyone help, please.

    Toshiba PC?

Have you had any remote support from Toshiba?

No. I don't have toshiba at all.

I'm still Windows 7 - for as long as I can be!

Does this better describe the problem?

You description has us assuming this is at the login screen, but your actually not very clear when/how this appears.

Has anyone with a Toshiba laptop connected to your wireless network recently?

I wonder if the user has been added from the Toshiba laptop to allow file sharing between your PC and the laptop...?

It appears on my user network - where I can see all the devices attached to the pc. It appeared as a network user, which I didn't like at all.

However I followed the link in DoaM's post and found a Malicious Software Removal Tool from Microsoft, which took about 3 and a half hours to run through and said it hadn't found anything.

After running it, though, the USER-TOSH went, so it seems to have removed it.

Thanks to everyone for your help and support. I was very worried when I found this as it seemed a link from the internet to my pc.

There's a hidden admin account on your PC, can you see that? No

Open a command prompt and type in "net users" to get a list of the user accounts on the machine. It's the only way to know for sure!

How do I get a command prompt, please.

It had gone last night, but is back again this morning when I switched the pc on.

When I open windows explorer it's in the Network part.

I did a screenshop, but can't work out how to get it on here.

It sounds like you are seeing a device on your network rather than a user on your PC. Do you have anything else connecting to your network? A phone, blu-ray player or TV for example?

^^ This, as your in Windows already then I suspect it's another machine on your network.

    Command prompt btw
Go to the start menu and in "search programs and files" type "cmd" and hit enter.
