So i did what martin says - tried his eligibility checker, all good - went to barclaycards site - did their checker 9.5/10. Apllied for card so far so good - first application looked dodgy as it had nothing at the end of the app. 6 days no contact so tried again thinking first was bad no problems here. Rang next day just to confirm to be told both had been refused.
Why i said - try your credit score! OK did that guess what a very good on 510 no bad marks well done me!!.
Rang back - more humming and rrr'ing - you dont meet our criteria - Sorry but your site said i did, cant help you.
So rang their customer services - what an a$$ehole - basically said you've been refused go away.
So who do you go too next becuase i dont think my score had anything to do with it - they just dont want too many having a good card.
Any thoughts anyone?

You're right - your score doesn't have anything to do with it - no one sees it but you. It's entirely meaningless.
They won't reveal their lending criteria to you, as it's commercially sensitive.
Just put it down to experience.0 -
If your chance of getting approved is 95% then 5 out of 100 people will be rejected.
They don't need to tell you why unfortunately, and yes it's a pain in the whatsit! You could in theory be too low a risk for the exact demographic they are looking for to balance their risk profile - there is no guessing!
Don't take it to heart, check your other credit files to check for any abnormalities on them - and check that all the date you gave on the applications matches what is on your credit file - some will fail if there is a mismatch even if it's not actually bad information if that a makes sense...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Theres no 1 to go to next as there's nothing to complain about.
There's obviously something on your credit report Barclaycard didn't like, it's 1 of them things so move on.

It can be worth popping into a local Barclays and having a chat with one of the personal bankers as to what criteria they like for Barclaycard customers. You have nothing to lose by doing so.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

Same thing happened to me where they rejected me but it turned out it was down to my income. Although when I looked back after being rejected, I'd put the wrong income in. The form allowed me to apply again and then they accepted me. This placed two marks on my credit search history though.
Although I'm wishing I hadn't bothered with them now. Their card is good but phoning them up and being put through to offshore call centres just doesn't do it for me. I contacted them regarding my card not registering properly on their website, and I ended up being put through to the debt collection department0 -
No-one has a right to credit, and that includes been told why they failed to get it. If they wanted to incorporate a die-roll as part of the approval process they could. Barclaycard do have a minimum income requirement, so that could be the failing. Also because they actual criteria are commercially sensitive, MSE don't know it, so whilst they say you may have a 95% chance it is purely based on observations of approvals rather than actual knowledge.0

Its annoying though because now it makes it just a little bit dodgy if i apply for another one - how many refusals affect your score. Should have know really because i have never had a good experience with Barclays.0 -

It's not just about risk. It's also about screening how good of a fit you would be as a customer.
If they've checked your report and judged that they're unlikely to make any profit from you, they could reject you for that even if you're considered minimal risk.
They actually said this themselves. "You don't meet our criteria". There's a lot more to lenders' criteria than just risk alone.0 -

None, as refusals do not appear on your files.
Things that do affect your score -
Having credit
Not having credit
The weather
Brexit
