Problems with sky

On Wednesday this week, I negotiated another years contract with sky. However, I asked them to remove sky + which had recently been added to my projected bill for next month.

I do not have a television and never asked for sky +. My new contract is for BB and line rental.

When I asked them to remove it from my projected bill and they said it would take two days. Today I had notification from them that sky + is removed but it says that it takes 30 days to become effective so is still on the projected bill.

Would you cancel the contract and go someone else?

I had a huge argument with them last year as they were taking money from my bank was not on the contract nor did I agree to it. The amount they agreed on was not what was being withdrawn and when I asked for the recording of the conversation I had to pay £10 for it.

It proved my point and they had to back off and pay me back.

NO for two reasons 30 days is fairly normal and you will be charged the full amount of your remaining contract if you break it .

Can anyone tell me how long l have in cooloff please?
  • Why don't you just phone Sky and find out what's happening, would that not be the sensible thing to do?

I have been on the phone to them all Wednesday afternoon. The email today says plainly that the sky + they slapped onto my projected bill for next month cannot be removed for one month.

I am going with BT Basic £5 a month for folk on benefits and Zen B for £21.

Then you need to call them back I'm afraid and ask about the email.

Did anyone on Wednesday mention a 30 day cancellation?

I asked for it to be removed straight away and they said yes. The next day it was still on and l was told it takes two days to have it removed. The following day l got the email that said it would take 30 days.

There is a limit to how much time l am willing to sort it out when l keep getting different answers every time.

And that's your right but if you get charged for it are you just going to accept it?

It's your account and your money, nobody on here can help if you don't talk to them and find out what's going on, after all it may even just be an automatically generated email that means nothing.

Why did you not query Sky+ when it was added, being as you can't use it ? They could mean that it has to stay in the billing cycle, so will need to be paid for, followed by a refund, like when you have to pay advance fees when leaving, then get a refund.

Also, as you re-negotiated, ie are not a new customer, there may not be a cooling off period as for new customers. Some people on here have said they have been given a cooling off period (not sure whther it was for just tv, though), but when I have renegotiated, they have always mentioned that there is no cooling off period, when reading the compulsory statement.

You are sure that they will allow using another internet provider, with Basic which is a special deal, as there is no mention on the website ?

I have been able to cancel.

Apparently, sky + was added to my last contract even though I did not authorise it, because the representitive made an error and should have added sky + to enable the rest of the deal. I paid for a recording of the phone call and they had to backtrack about the terms agreed but left the sky + on my account, but were not charging for it. I did not know this.

A few months into the contract I saw that they were charging too much and insisted that it was not the amount agreed, and then ordered the recording. Because they had taken so much extra I did not have to pay anything for the rest of the year as it was creditted to my account.

So wwhen I made the new contract I saw that sky + was going to be added after March. They say it has now been concelled - we shall see.
