Thanks mate! Nope, definitely not claiming on my policy for mine.

I have protected NC, does that matter?

It'll mean you get the same discount on renewal as you got this year but your insurance will go up because you have had a claim because the base quote will rise. Many people mistakenly think that protected NCB means their insurance won't go up if they have a prang.

Okay, so do I still declare that I have xx amount of NCB on my future quotes? Whilst declaring that I've had an accident obviously :o

That's a point, how long does the accident stand, as in you need to declare it? I'm sure my mate's wife got into trouble a few years ago for not declaring a prang she was involved in that she wasn't even responsible for! They had a group policy I think, if that makes a difference?

Yes. Your ncd is the same now as it was prior to the incident.

Different insurers ask for different history. Between 3 & 5 years (you disclose all claims & losses whether or not you were to blame )

Thanks! So say I've got 10 years worth of points now, if I do a new quote tomorrow, I still have 10 years and I can still ask for them to be protected? The only difference in the quote is that I declare my ding.

On the other point then, I'm pretty sure my friend's wife's accident involvement (not her fault) was when when she was at Uni and easily over 5 years which is why she stopped declaring it... they stopped using that provider after that and haven't had any issues since that I know off :)

Yes you can ask to protect it, though bear in mind you have lost a protected Ncd "life", and may not be eligible with a new insurer.

Okay, so say I do a brand new, fresh quote today - when going through the form am I basically saying I have zero NCB, but that I still want it protected? I shall see what my current insurer says when I call them and get them to give me a quote for my next vehicle but if it's silly money, surely I can get a new quote on the price comparisons?

    Thanks.

You don't have zero Ncd ( unless you now want to cover a second vehicle on.a new policy).

As previously posted your protection means you have the same NCD as you had prior to your claim

Ah, I see. I've kind of started to ask the same questions haven't I? :o

All understood, thanks for your input.
  • Hi guys,

Just had my first (seemingly generic) email from my insurer. I had absolutely nothing from them after my call to report the accident the other day...

    It reads:
Please keep this document to hand as it contains important information about your claim

    Dear xxxx xxxx

    Incident date: 3rd February 2017

Please quote your vehicle registration number throughout your claim journey as your reference.

Thank you for calling the xxxx claims line to inform us of your recent incident. We are sorry to hear you have been involved in an accident, but rest assured you are in the best possible hands to ensure swift, efficient and hassle free resolution and management of your claim.

As discussed, to provide you with the best levels of support and service we work with carefully chosen partners who may need to contact you in connection with your claim. Below is a list of our partners who are involved in your claim and details for the services they provide:

xxxx will appoint an approved repairer or engineer to inspect your vehicle and determine the next steps once completed. If you have any questions regarding the inspection of your vehicle, please contact xxxx: Telephone Number xxxxxxxxxx.

If you should require any further assistance in connection with your claim please call us on xxxxxxxxxxx

    Thank you for choosing xxxx
No attachments, nothing. Is this just the automated 'acceptance' email? I'm not claiming for my car but will they still send out an engineer as stated? I was planning to get the car shifted on Tuesday :(

Other than the phone numbers, which I already have, I see no reason for keeping this message to hand?

    Thanks.

You ought to reply in writing and confirm you do not wish to make a claim (if that is your decision), and that they have misunderstood your notification and are wrongly treating it as a "claim"
