    Morning everyone,

Dry, bright and reasonably mild here, like Gers I kicked off the covers in the night.

Another day over the bungalow today, have someone coming to pick up various bits of mobility equipment, they can only give an approx time slot of 5 hours so it will be a bit of a wait.
Not sure what else my day will bring, will have to see.

Hope you feel better soon snoozer and all other poorlies, good news re your son Judi.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Good Morning all,

Camelot so little you can say to help ,but just be there for them and listen when you can.Children often just switch off when bad things happen sadly.

snoozer hope you feel better soon.
re vicars my nephew is one up in Lancashire and its probably the only church I have been in which is at time standing room only He is such a lovely chap and is up at 5.30 every morning 7 days a week and rarely gets days off.He not only has his parish work but he is also a prison and hospital chaplain and does a lot of work for ex-soldiers.He does an immense amount for the british legion as he was out in the Falklands during the conflict. a gentle loving chap who knows everyone in the parish and makes a point of meeting new people and visiting folk who are sick to see if he can help, even getting their shopping for them.as he says he christens, marries and buries his flock and is quite happy to have a pint of two with them as well.I hope to give him a surprise visit when I am in the north in a couple of months time. A very down to earth chap and one of the Queens chaplains. When he was given that honour he said he was kneeling before HM and thinking 'I can't believe I'm here my Dad was a milkman :):):) I just hope I don't fall flat on my face when I get up and trip in this surplice ' Not all vicars are horrible some are real gems. More like our Hughie would mean fuller churches I think.

Well this afternoon is History club and we are learning about Oliver Cromwell so it should be an interesting afternoon.

The weather at the moment is a bit like a small baby wet'n'windy :):):) hopefully it will improve later
<<hugs>> to those who are struggling and sad,
    onwards and upwards chums

  • Good morning everyone,

    Happy Friday :)

Yesterday evening was lovely. I drove straight to my grans and we shared a lovely meal and had a great catch up. The conversation turned to what it was like when she was younger and the differences in things like central heating and having the toilets outside. Was fascinating and I could tell she loved telling various stories.

Today I've been to the gym and now in work, about to get myself a coffee. Hoping to have a productive day. I've no plans for tonight as of yet and I'm quite happy with that to be honest. I've got a recipe for a healthy coconut cake that I think I might tackle.

snoozer - hope you feel better soon

    Have a super day everyone.
  • Morning all
Waiting for the windy weather to hit us they say after 11am which is a worry as DS is off to meet a friend in London to sort out a year long apprenticeship in Texas he is hoping to train as a bail bondsman. DH and I have the first dog training session and we need to go through country lanes . Will try to get to town today it had to be abandoned yesterday as there was a fatal accident on the main road nearby so traffic was at a standstill. Dinner tonight whatever is in the freezer for quickness
Hugs to all who need them and please stay safe if you are out and about in the wind
  • Morning all. The sun is shining outside although I can see frost on my windscreen. I didn't get home until nearly midnight so the temperature must have dropped quickly after that.

Today we have friends coming to stay for the weekend so this morning I'll be making a cake and some shortbread. House is fairly clean and tidy so just need a quick clean in the bathroom and then we're done. We always have an enjoyable weekend when they stay and tomorrow we're off for a stroll and a pub lunch, followed by a quiz in the evening. I'm putting the 6Nations on to record as we're all rugby fans but probably won't have time to watch it until much later.

    Enjoy your day everyone.

    Good morning,

FBO Thank you for the thread.

Camelot that must have been a very sad visit, poor family.

Re. Vicars, up to a few years ago DH and I were very occasional church goers even though the local church is just across the road from us, because we found the successive vicars quite uninspiring even if they were very nice people (one was my friend before she became a priest). Good, kind people who did the best for their congregation but were very mild and moderate, the perfect models for a middle class Anglican congregation.

Then our new vicar arrived and changed all that. This guy is an American, larger than life, a former barrister so he really has the gift of the gab. He preaches like the preachers of old, minus the fire and brimstone because he is a gentle giant, full of compassion and really what could be termed "filled with the Spirit" in religious language. He is full of righteous anger against social injustice and has no problem in saying what many won't say, both on and off the pulpit. He is slowly but surely refilling our church and because of his wonderful inclusive approach to Christianity DH and I have now become regular churchgoers and also active members of the church.

We know that we have a rare gem in this vicar, he has even organised a series of meetings in his home, the Sceptics Group, where everybody is invited to go and share their doubts, ideas and misgivings about the Christian life and philosophy. And he appreciates good food and drink, at his meeting there is always some good cheese and a bottle or two of wine to share.

We are so fortunate to have this amazing vicar, a truly open minded and progressive man but he is already in his late 60s and we (the congregation, not just us two) at what will happen when he retires.

    Today:

Pilates then a substantial brunch, then a trip to Kent.

We have a small investment by a Kent building society that has come to an end but is managed in branch only - we went to open it there because it had very advantageous rates, before all rates fell - so we will make it an afternoon outing, getting our little money pot and also a walk around the small pretty town. They have great CSs!

Foodwise, I am really struggling with WW, low fat so doesn't agree with me, to fill up I end up eating much more carb than I am used to and I find it bland and boring, will give it this week and then see how it goes, might stick to the meetings until end of the month because I have paid for them and the weigh in keeps me informed of progress (or lack thereof), but won't renew.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hope you all have a good day.

Just had some really bad news which I'm trying to contain my anger and emotions at...

Didn't swim last night, had intended to go tonight instead but not sure about that now.

    Take care all.

    Morning all,
Still feeling rough,so no lunch out for me today.DH & I are meant to be going into Manchester tomorrow night with friends so am hoping I can buck up enough for then, its been planned weeks. Its also DS1s birthday tomorrow and I've not been able to go and get a card so I'll have to make one.No pressie either but he'll not be averse to money in the card :D

I was talking to one of the contractors when I took Lyla out,the big crane that is plonked right outside our front garden is due to be removed from site next week so that'll improve our view somewhat :j.They have started to fill the hole left by the landslip after the flood so there are lots of wagons tipping stone now, once thats done they can start to repair the road, although there is a new notice extending the road closure until August or when the work is finished if sooner.

I've put my breadmaker on,first time in months as we seem to be running out and I'm not going out.I've hardly eaten bread for months,I can resist shop bought quite easily, home made with butter is a different matter ;)

RR-Ly1a used to eat my socks, never mind chew them.If I tried to grab one she'd gulp it down. They always reappeared though :rotfl:good thing she must have large internal pipes.

Hugs to everyone in need xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I'm just back from a very successful trip to Lidl both financially and emotionally. Most of the fruit and veg was so cheap I stocked up my little trolley and then bought stuff for hubby to make us a cooked breakfast. It was also the least stressed I've been for ages and I actually enjoyed going out even if it was pouring down. I bought lasagne and garlic bread for tea and I will make up a lovely fresh salad to go with it.

All the girls are in school today and hubby has a day off so I got a lie in as well. DD14 had a rough old day yesterday but seemed a lot brighter today.

Sending you hugs karcher, it's horrible when you get bad news xx
Rosy red, my dog is obsessed with socks, I don't think he has actually eaten one yet but he usually has one stashed in his bed, the stinkier the better :).

Well my breakfast is nearly ready so I will love you all and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all,
Hugs to all the poorlies and those having a tough time.

Had a great night sleep as DH slept downstairs because he couldn't lie down on his bad shoulder. Did miss my hot water bottle though (DH) because he always goes to bed before me and warms the bed up. His shoulder is still very stiff and sore this morning but he did manage to drive me to the local Al*i. He's snoozing in the chair as I type so I think I will go and do some baking as there are three lonely pineapple rings leftover, so maybe an upside down cake is in order.

Take care and have a good Friday
