Bank of Ireland PPI Response

Hi All,

I put a PPI claim in through this site. Today I got a generic response from the bank advising me that my complaint should be sent in a letter to the PPI complaints unit in Dublin, there was also an advert within the response relating to a mortgage deal which I felt was inappropriate.

I thought that through the templates on this page that was enough in order to trigger the process and that I would not need to send written letter.

Is this correct procedure?

You are free to make your complaint by any means that can be read or heard by the firm. However, it is important it goes to the right people. It sounds like you sent the complaint to the wrong people and they have given you the correct details.

Templates are not the best way to complain and you still have to send the template to the correct place. Templates have a lower success rate than personalised complaints (often because the template includes things that can be proven otherwise and that harms your credibility). The best method is to complete the FOS form and send that direct to the PPI complaints address on the website. That is personalised to your situation and asks all the necessary questions that the firm need to look at your complaint.

So an email sent to BOI complaints department should suffice?

It should. However, make sure you give them enough info. If you dont then they will likely ask you for more info. Attaching the FOS form in the email will do the job nicely.

Great call on this, the bank accepted this format, now I just have to wait for the investigation to conclude.
