  • Good morning one and all,

    Gloomy looking morning.

Yesterday was a productive day. I went to the gym before work and got home around 6pm and made my dinner and lunch for today. Updated some music and done a few bits and bobs on my computer then off to football. Came home from that finish up my things and read a bit before nodding off.

Although I've been to the gym today, tonight I shall enjoy a lovely meal with my gran again. Not sure what the menu is.

AoD - I'm with you that one. We can do this!
TA - you meals for the day sound deliciously healthy, go you!
  • Morning (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) of you need one.

No rain but very windy, might try and put the washing out, the way the wind is blowing it should not take long to dry.

I had a better nights sleep last night was exhausted anyway which helped.

Up early this morning, council workman due between 8 and 12 noon, of course he did not turn up at 8am!!

Just checked the bank statement, the money has poured out as usual, the first 2 days of the month.

I totted up the grocery bill, I actually went £3 over the £120, so will do the same this month, it does seem to keep the brakes on a bit using the debit card. Thanks to having new glasses I have a CC bill for just over £200 to pay, big dent in the savings plan this month, no cash in at all.
  • Morning all

Morning everyone, Merry Imbolc to you all x

Dry and definitely milder here today with some watery sunshine, I did sleep better last night but have woken up with a stiff neck, should think it's all the tension.
DB and I went to see the vicar yesterday afternoon and have firmed up the details of Mum's thanksgiving service, luckily for us she had chosen all of the hymns and readings she wanted so it was just a case of deciding what order to do them all in. I haven't been impressed with the vicar in the past and yesterday did nothing to improve my opinion, he came to see Mum once, months ago when she was in hospital and nothing since even though he was told when she went to the hospice, all this for a lady who had been a committed member of his church for over 40 years  and to quote my darling Dad, he has a handshake like a wet fish! Rant over!

Anyways, we are taking some boxes over to a charity workshop today that provides work for homeless people and then will treat ourselves to lunch out somewhere, we are thinking of a village pub that we tried to get in to just before Xmas but was fully booked, should be nice.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good morning everyone -thanks to FurryBeastOz for starting the thread

JackieO- my Gran started life in a "Butt and Ben" near Perth, before moving to Ayr when she was about nine as her Mum was unwell so they wanted to be nearer to her sisters for help. My great-grandpa had been an estate worker but ended up working in a steel foundry following the move. They weren't a huge family just four children so small for that time but still must have been tough in such a small house. My gran said when she moved to Ayr it was the first time she had seen a flushing loo and her younger sister was terrified of it :)

It's murky here today and looks as though some heavy rain is on the way and it feels none too warm either :(

After the replacement vac-packer debacle the faulty one is getting uplifted today and new (fully tested) one delivered so it will be getting tried out when I portion up some chicken thighs for the freezer later.

Meal plan has gone a bit awry after not feeling great yesterday so will have a freezer rake later and see what I fancy, I do find meal planning helps but sometimes it doesn't work out.....

No real plans for the day have some home admin to sort out and task from my voluntary work to clear but apart from that I think I fancy just pottering . I could do with making some more fat balls for the birds so might get that later and I'm going to string up some rather wrinkly apples for them to peck at. I love watching the birds about the garden though my pooch is slightly less impressed as they are not scared of him one bit......

Hope everyone has a good day, hugs to anyone that needs one x

    Morning OS daily-ers

Well I managed to sleep from about 1.30am till 5am, when I awoke needing the loo, then a miracle happened and I went back to sleep for a couple of hours  So about 6 hours sleep but still had some horrible dreams and woke drenched in sweat:o...but better than recently and I feel slightly better for it.

Dinner last night was 2..yes two shop bought veg lasagnes!!! I hadn't meant to eat both but one just wasn't enough. No idea what's on the menu for tonight. I am quite determined to go for a swim after work so will no doubt call in the shop on the way home and buy something I shouldn't :o

Since the beginning of the year I have been eating far more than I should and my waistline (and clothes) are showing the proof, hence needing to swim tonight. I haven't been doing anywhere near as much exercise as I should either, but I blame tiredness for that....so I need to start making an effort to cut back on the eating and swim more. Well at least that's the plan.....:p

Hope you all have a good day and take care all :A

    Morning all,

What a rotten day! its blowing a gale down the side of my house. I only went up to the path and the wind pushed me sideways.

Had a deep and meaningful conversation with eldest Son last night. Its good to hear from him.

Youngest daughter gave me a DVD of my Grandaughter in 4d last night. She is 17 weeks pregnant and already you can see such detail.

Trying to sort out 'Prodigal' is no easy task. Theres nothing like a good dose of reality to knock me flat but i'm still smiling through gritted teeth (or trying to anyway).

    Onwards and forwards,

have a great (and dry) day all.

Hi everyone, thanks for the thread FBO x

The forecast heavy rain didn't arrive thank goodness so a dry and slightly lighter walk to the station this morning. Can't wait for Spring to arrive.

Work is steady today - lots of folks out of the office either travelling or ill :( I have bits to keep me busy but will probably leave at 4.30pm again today as I have time on my flexiclock. This will be eaten into next week though if the planned tube strike happens :(

Dinner tonight is chicken and chorizo pasta. DH and DS2 have scouts and they are going on a night hike (rather them than me). I will phone my sister and my BFF for a catch up and get an early night I think.

Hugs to all in need of one.
    Have a good day all.

    Good afternoon all,

FBO thank you for the thread.

Warm wishes and hugs to all who have a heavy heart and well wishes to all the poorlies.

I had a wonderful lie-in, as DH had to go and see our vicar about a design he is doing for the church kitchen, at 9, so I stayed in bed and read. Very nice.

When he came back around 10 he told me that there were men chopping trees at the end of the road and were giving out free firewood logs. So I got up and dressed and went to help him pick up one carload. They told us to come back if we wanted more and we asked them to save them for us.

We went back home, had breakfast (eggs with spinach) and went back to take the rest home. Luckily the guys had been good with their word and told us that someone nearby wanted to take the wood but they said it was spoken for. I know who that neighbour is and know that they will be most annoyed because they don't like us (long unpleasant story that does not need to be shared). If it had been anyone else I would have happily shared but I cannot even go to their doorstep because the woman of the house has been known to slam the door in my face.

Lots of carrying logs back and forth from the car and front garden to back garden, my exercise for the day is done.

Not much planned for today, just lunch (buckwheat pasta with lentils in tomato sauce), then soaking some beans for next week church soup, then pick up the little boy, today I have to drive all the way to his school because he has a sport event. Nice, because it means I spend my work time driving and sitting in the school waiting for him instead of cooking. Makes life easier. I just hope it doesn't rain because the parking to the school building is quite a walk.

I have finished folding the night shelter bedding thad was drying all over my doors and clothes horses so can put another wash in, since the weather looks dry and mild enough to hang washing on the line.

I am going to explore one of those rotary washing lines that you can attach to the wall, because the bottom of the garden is going to be changed, we are going to chop down the posts that we used to have for washing line because we want to build planters for fruit trees. It is a small garden so there is not much space for a rotary in the middle of the paved area, but I don't want to give up drying laundry outdoors.

Back home, dinner is going to be parsnip soup (parsnips already roasted) and some vegetable or the other, probably cooked cabbage, then fruit. Trying to stick to this WW diet malarkey but the low fat is driving me insane with hunger, it just does not agree with me. I am going to give it a bit longer to see if I get used to it but am so tempted to go back to low carbing when I could just have a nice chunk of cheese and few nuts if needed a snack, without all the bother of counting. The no-counting is not all that good for me because it is either meat- or carb- based, or low-fat alternatives (zero fat cottage cheese YEURGH).

I wish I was one of these people who do not put weight on easily, I know so many people who eat like horses and don't have a weight problem.

Right, speaking of food, time to start lunch. At least lentils are already cooked, I just need to add the pasta and chuck some passata in the pan.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I'm back from teaching, today was most amiable indeed. The bad one from yesterday sent me an apologetic email so he was sunshine and light. And they all got on with their work without any hassle. Yeeha!

Caterina - what a windfall for you. Well done on snaffling the wood, that'll help you through the winter.

Yesterday I made my favourite Mary Berry Mexican Tortilla Bake and have just had some for lunch. It's fairly big so some will go in the freezer, not sure if it should be frozen but I'll soon find out. I added some cauli and green beans for my veggie rations.

Now will have to do some banking admin online and then a neighbour is calling round after the school run so must get the fire going. It's not so cold here today but I can't impose my self-discipline and frugality on neighbours.
