Wise up to what? That was as quoted. Final bill was £930/£940 (can't be bothered fishing the the paperwork out), as tile adhesive, grout, and a few fittings needed to be bought.....stud wall materials, plaster and paint was included.

He had a few other jobs elsewhere within the 7 days....original estimate was 5 days.

I was expecting a higher quote, and would have accepted one as I'd seen his work, and thought it was excellent.

The problem here is that 99.9% of the public wouldn't know a good job if it slapped them in the face . You've paid peanuts and at that day rate you've got a monkey, anyone with any skill or sense charges accordingly

So what if a "Monkey" quotes you a high price to make you think he is good?

    You look at people's work!

    It isn't hard.

You take his referrals, you look at his work . You do the basic checks

Bathrooms are my business , you couldn't even buy the material for what some folk charge . At the rate given if this trader was certified and time served he'd be working for someone else making the same money for far less hassle without dealing with the public, giving quotes etc .

Just a quick update on this. He came to do the work today. Got everything done in a day, but there were two of them so there was obviously more work involved than I thought, so I think what we paid was about right :)

  • Actually, if you don't want to spend much money, you can try to find shops with discounts. For example this shop houseofenki.com has sometimes very beneficial offers)
