Fitting sink, toilet and two radiators

Hi All,
I've just received a quote to install a toilet, sink and two radiators. We've already bought all the kit, the only exceptions are
the bottle trap for the sink, the thermostatic valves for one of the radiators, and the necessary pipe and fittings to connect all the bits to the pipework. All the pipework leading to/from the boiler is already in place. It's just a case of connecting it all up.
The breakdown in the quote is as follows:
1. Drained down heating system.
2. Connect valves and pipe work to radiator in kitchen.
3. Install towel rail in cloakroom to wall.
4. Supply and fit valves and connect to pipe work.
5. Add inhibitor to system and check operation.
6. Fit basin unit in cloakroom to wall.
7. Fit tap and waste to basin then fit to unit.
8. Connect tap to hot/cold water supplies.
9. Supply and fit of trap to basin.
10. Connect waste trap to waste.
11. W.c to be installed.
12. Connect pan to waste with flexi-connector.
13. Connect cistern to cold supply.
14. Once appliances fitted check for leaks.
The quote is £518 for parts and labour.
I'm fairly certain this is overpriced, it's just a case of how overpriced? We've used this guy before and are happy with his work, and he did all the 'prep work' previously, so he can't blame anything unexpected/faulty when he does the work as he's the one who did it. So we'd like to use him, but if he's taking the mick we'll go elsewhere.
Any opinions? We're in the south east so will bump up the price a bit.

I don't see anything wrong with that price at allI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Depends whereabouts you are I'd say its about right, ask him to do it for £500 and he will probably say yes.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

So you have used this guy before, know the standard of his work, find him relaible and trustworthy yet you are quibbling over a few pounds? . Get a random stranger in to do the work and see how much that actually costs you.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

So if you regularly used a guy but then he suddenly tripled his day rate you'd carry on using him just because you've used him before and are happy with his work?
I have no idea how much this work should cost, hence the post. If it's in the right ballpark then I'll gladly go with him. I (perhaps naively) thought that parts would be £100 tops and he'd be able to get it done in a day so I'd be looking at a £400+ day rate which seems steep to me.0 -
I'd be more inclined to think he's allowed 2 days for that, even if he is only there for a few hours the 2nd day you will get charged for the day because it's unlikely he will book anything else in incase your job over runsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

I think that quote's on the high side.
I had my whole bathroom ripped out, stud wall built, tiled floor to ceiling, floor tiles laid, ceiling plasteted and painted, extractor and lighting redone, and finally a new suite fitted, all to an excellent standard for £890 (no materials included).
Work was done in June 2016, and spread over seven days.0 -
Excessive for sure... I did way more than that myself a couple weeks ago when gutting my old bathroom out completely and rebuilding it, that sort of work what's listed there took me around 1 full day.
+ the list he has provided is REALLY stretched out to make it seem longer than it really is.
Note. I have had extremely little knowledge about plumbing so had to learn few things as I go, but we are talking about a full-blown plumber doing it for you..
actually now that I think about it, it took me much longer to source all the stuff needed/and to drive to shops than to install all the things!0 -
Wise up. That is a nonsense price. No self-employed person can afford to work for that pittance (£125/day!). Probably minus materials too. (Did you provide rawl plugs; screws etc.? No - thought not.)
Wise up to what? That was as quoted. Final bill was £930/£940 (can't be bothered fishing the the paperwork out), as tile adhesive, grout, and a few fittings needed to be bought.....stud wall materials, plaster and paint was included.
He had a few other jobs elsewhere within the 7 days....original estimate was 5 days.
I was expecting a higher quote, and would have accepted one as I'd seen his work, and thought it was excellent.0 -

Well done. That doesn't make what you paid a going rate, I'm afraid, for the rest of us! I would be frightened of not getting a proper job if someone quoted me that.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
