Hi all,

looking to get deal on electricity and the prices are rising everywhere (has brexit got something to do with it?).

We have had E10 now for 3 years and always been with iSupplyEnergy (iSE). We have used in last 12 months
69.87% off peak electricity and consumed total of 5507kWh (3848|1659), so the E10 suits us.

When we first wanted to join iSE, it has been a painful process, as they did not know if they supported E10, then we got charged for off peak as peak etc.,
but iSE have ironed out most of the problems.

I have been looking around and I can not find any E10 tarrifs and iSE when signing up with them askes "Do you have a day / night meter (Economy 7 or similar) ?"

We have Multi-Rate Meter Series S from SSE Metering Ltd. Type S123B03 and I wonder if I sign up with iresa.co.uk that offers Economy 7, will we get Economy 7 tarrif
or I can safely assume that they will, becasue of the type of meter we have supply Economy 10 (10 hours of off peak electricty )?

Thank you very much.

Jim

  • Its a multi use meter and can be programmed with an IR lead and laptop to virtually any tariff... You can sign up as E7 but they will know the tariff you are on from the data flow sent from your previous supplier which might flag a problem further up the road...
  • Thank you for your reply misterbarlow.

1] Can I ammend the time on the meter with my laptop? It is running 5 minutes behind and I complained to iSE, but got nowhere. It's not a big deal as every timer in the house has got the meter time set on, but if I could correct it that would be great :)

2] So is there any way to find out who does support E10 tariffs, saving me a loot of aggravation just trying to sign up with some of the suppliers and see if they will support it?
I have found in a forum somewhere here a link to Ofgem web site, "listing of all electricity licensees with registered or service addresses", but there is 162 companies and after my experience with iSE, not everyone knows what "Economy 10" is and E7 is not a option as those extra 5 hours in the afternoon 13-16 | 20-22 we use a loot of electricity plus the water heater is only on for 45 min, but 3 times a day ;)

    Welcome to MSE :hello:

Sadly, you have failed to abide by my golden rule as far as this type of metering is concerned.

i.e. Do NOT attempt to switch supplier with this type of metering as attempts to do so invariably end in tears.

Sounds like you had some tears at the time, but have managed to dry your eyes since.

Only 2 options I can suggest to you now.

    1. Approach your original supplier and ask if they will accept you back. Some will, but they are under no obligation to.

    2. Remain with your current supplier, although they are under no obligation to continue to support you with this type of metering.

    Good luck!
  • Thank you for your input footyguy.

    I have until 14 February 2017 to renew with offered of "iFix 12-Month Jan18 v2" :)

Originally when we purchased the property we had pre-paid meter here and that cost an arm and leg.
So I suggested to get normal meter after looking at our el. consumption, so we got installed the Multi-Rate Meter Series S and E10 tariff from SSE and now for past 3 years been with iSE as they always been cheapest.

So, if it does not say specifically Economy 10 or in case of iSE "Economy 7 or similar" it will not be E10.

162 companies to chec, luckily the Ofgem website has "List of all electricity licensees with registered or service addresses - Excel sheet" format :) but no tel. numbers.

We can see that your meter has what's known as a 'complex configuration'. This means it's neither a Standard nor an Economy 7 meter. To continue your quote please call our specialist Complex Metering team on: 0800 092 8059

No, you'll need the main Horstmann meter software, and SSC configuration files, which you prob wont find online anywhere, and a usb IR head also from Horstmann.
Most suppliers wont care if the clock is out less than about 30mins..

Thank you for the technical inside, I feel lucky it's only 5 minutes out :)
  • As per post #4 from footyguy I will not risk swapping to any provider that offers Day/Night tariff.....

So, can anyone please recommend Economy 10 (E10) provider that they are with or have been in the past, but other than iSupplyEnergy (iSE)?
