I just checked my Credit Rating, it is down by a few tens, but I thought it is because of debt I got on my credit card, rather than anything else.

Your credit score means nothing, what does your credit file/ report tell you? That will list any late payments/ defaults from mobile contracts. Were you with T Mobile at the time?

If you do realise that you owe the money then give them a call and make payment. All the suggestion of denying it is pretty childish.

(Could you have given notice on your contract and cancelled your direct debit before the final payment was taken? Keep in mind that the debt may now be a fair bit higher than it originally was.)

T Mobile has told me, in no uncertain terms, that I do not owe them any money. But then Lowell told me that they have acquired the debt from Tmobile. There might be something there. Regardless, I am calling T Mobile tomorrow to figure out if they have indeed transferred the debt to Lowell. It is really annoying. I remember terminating my contract at the store but apparently ti didn't get through the system.

How old is the debt from T-Mobile?

and in reference to the person saying denying a debt is childish, I don't think anyone is suggesting the OP doesn't pay a legitimately owed debt, but it is entirely possible that it's an error. Lowell use fear, uncertainty and doubt to weasel money out of people and the OP is absolutely entitled to have Lowell prove that the money allegedly owed is legitimate.

OP, don't waste any more time on T-Mobile. They've already told you that you don't owe them any money. Wait for the next letter from Lowell and respond as previously indicated.

From July 2013. Lowell says I stopped paying in February, 2013 and contract was terminated in July, 2013.

And did you stop paying in Feb 2013?

Do not rely on Lowell to tell you that - do your own research - check your bank statements.
  • Don't assume that there is any sort of valid debt here at all.

Lowell are well known for buying dodgy debts with absolutely no idea what they are about. Very often there is no debt.

If Lowell want to pursue you, I think it is for them to tell you what the debt is for and provide any statements/explanation/evidence which they have. This is what they are supposed to do under their regulatory obligations. It shouldn't be for you to go through all your historic bank details to try and guess.

Get back to them in writing asking for an explanation of what this is about and a full statement/evidence showing how the amount has been calculated. If they can't provide that, then ignore them unless you receive a court claim form (I think it is unlikely they would sue you if they know the debt is contested and they have no evidence to back it up).

If the debt has been transferred (sold) to a debt collector then you obviously wouldn't owe the original creditor AND the DCA, you'd only owe whoever currently owns the debt. It's very likely that T-Mobile would have the account as "nothing outstanding" if they sold the debt off.

You'll almost certainly have to go past CS to find out if it was indeed sold off or not.
  • they have their guys walking around leeds bus station trying to intimidate passengers which I think is completely wrong. let people get home first at least.

Also, I rang them on a withheld mobile number and they put me call on hold while they hacked the phone and obtained the number from the phone while I was on hold. nasty company to deal with. I might just report them and their illegal practices to the European lawmakers.
