I'm susprised you weren't still clutching the bill in the ambulance on your way to maternity!!!

Suppliers have an obligation to check high bills. They've had lots of bad press for sending £5000 bills to old folks. I think if it were me, I would have involved the media just to gain more ground on them. Some of these companies have a "press office complaints" team and from my experience they dish out lots of compensation at the drop of a hat purely to keep their names out of the papers.

Just a question though. You say the £17k bill was sent out a day before the regulation change and you called them about it. So, they sent you the correct bill after the regulation change. You could argue that the £17k bill was not an attempt to bill correctly at all and as such is void and replaced by the £900 one that you got afterwards. I don't think Energywatch have been very helpful with you there as 1 day with an erroneous bill then the correct bill after in my opinion should be counted as post regulation change! Surely!!!

You wouldn't really be able to argue that you set the DD up and that should have been it because you should have been receivng bills and you would know if you were not. However, I think they should have billed for 12 months only.

They also sound like they have sold your debt off to the debt collector. They will want to set up an arrangement with you but won't be aware of your 2009 arrangement. Thats very wrong by PGen, they should recall the debt and let you pay them. The debt collector may start adding their own charges on top which is very unfair since PGen know that you are not a defaulter. The only reason I could see them doing that legitimately would be if you had not continued to stick to the payment schedule.

So, maybe you can use that to re-open the incompetance debate???

    Good luck
