  • I always used to use boot polish.

Although that was back in the day when having dirty tyres could end up having 'consequences'

Toshing up tyres with something like tyrewall black looks naff; it's what I used to do when I worked with dodgy car traders. If you rub a curb it all comes off anyway so a waste of time except to look 'good?' in a showroom.

Usually something along the line of someone gently suggesting that the truck is bloody filthy and would we gentlemen like to give it a bit of a clean and then do a little PT before finishing?

This is a money-saving forum. Can there be a more pointless waste of money than making tyres look shiny?

MSE is about ensuring you get the best product and the best value for money for what you buy.

A mate of mine used to use boot polish as well - just the cheapest supermarket own-brand stuff, he reckoned it was just as good as the more expensive purpose-made gunk.

You will get a matt black finish though. I prefer the glossy look that you get with the purpose made stuff.

I buy mine in 5 litre tubs by Neilsen for around £20 and it lasts me a year easily.

    No big expense or hardship.
