Tyre dressing - any recommendations?
I generally use Autoglym products, since their whole kit came with the car, but I'm really disappointed with the tyre dressing. It had good reviews on amazon but either I'm doing something wrong or the stuff is just useless. (Their de-icer has also been a disappointment).
I want something to make the tyres clean, shiny, and deep black. I don't want it spraying all over the paintwork. The Autoglym stuff said it could be used wet or dry, but I've tried both and it's still not looking good. Are there any other brands that are good?
I clean the tyres first with just the car shampoo. Would it be better to clean them first with something specific?

This is a money-saving forum. Can there be a more pointless waste of money than making tyres look shiny?0

Money saving is about getting the best deal for what you want, not about doing without.0 -
I use Tyre Slik - B&M do it for £30

Meguiars Tyre Gel or Adams Tyre Shine - https://www.prestigecarcareshop.com/collections/wheels-tyres-trims/products/adams-new-tire-shine0

As above, Meguiars is good. With any of the products mentioned you really need to degrease the tyres properly before you apply the product.
As the money saving aspect has been mentioned you could make up your own mixture http://myshinycar.com/homemade-tire-shine/
Alternatively you could check out one of the detailing sites http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2508970 -
I'm surprised that the Auto Glym dressing has not done the job. I buy a huge tub about once a year and apply it using a brush. The tyres always look brand new for a little while afterwards.0

Another vote Meguiars, I like most of their products.

They regularly have discount codes, so maybe worth registering your e mail with them, for notifications..

Do you do the inside wall and the tread as well?
Do these products protect the tyre in any way, for instance from deterioration due to the effect of the sun?0 -
Just the tyre wall and shoulder. TBH, it wouldn't last very long on the tread. Despite any claims this stuff is purely cosmetic, personally I don't bother myself.0
