Extractor fan in new kitchen not doing a good job

Some advice needed please, when I'm using my new extractor fan it's not removing all the steam. When using pans on the front a fair bit of the steam is going up the sides and top cupboard above extractor making these soaking wet, I'm even having to get my steps out to wipe down the dark grey trim along on the very top. Plus water runs down the wall behind. Brick mosaic tiles about to go on tomorrow excuse different colours on doors, I've yet to remove the film off the gloss white doors. It's a Lamona extractor with 365 extraction rate. I'm puzzled to what I can do.

  • Extractors are generally recommended to be around 650mm above the height of the hob and around 20-30% wider.

The extraction rate seems reasonable though, assuming that's m3 per hour.

Is it actually extracting? (ie ducting to an outside wall) Or is it simply recirculating ?
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

Yes, charcoal filter not in it as we have a large silver cylinder running 5ft along top of units taking it out through the wall into a chimney breast that's hidden there. We've used a piece of kitchen paper towel and it sucks it up tight against the extractor.

Forgot to mention steam also creating water droplets on mesh of the extractor, dropping back down onto induction hob,

I even thought maybe is it the induction hob because it heats up quicker and seems to boil faster....may sound stupid but trying to think of everything

I've measured and its 800mm above hob.

In Howdens book it's listed as Lamona Shallow Canopy Extractor 60cm and measurements H612mmxW525mmxD275mm

Neff induction hob measures 59cms across by 52cm back to front

Is there a recirculate / extract lever inside - found that one before :o

IMO it doesn't seem to extend far enough forward to extract from the front rings. My hood is 500 deep and the front of the hob is 550, no steam problems here.

I'll ask the fitter that question tomorrow.

We thought it wasn't forward enough, but as you can see by the photo it cannot be any further forward. Any kitchen designed like this it would be in the same place. Extractor wasn't even discussed with planner, it was just put in the plans and delivered with the units, so you would think she would know her job.

After tiling finished, fitter going to have another look at extractor fan to see if it can be turned around i.e. lights at back, meaning more extraction near the front, fingers crossed it can be done and works.

Also bear in mind that extractors can only work at their design flow when they have a free flow of fresh 'make-up' air into the home. Perhaps try it with a window open (ideally on the windward side of the building) if that's a possible issue.
