New contracts

I am locked into a BT Broadband contract for another year. However I want to reduce my service to the lowest level possible as I am going with Virgin VIP package. if when I contact BT they say I need to enter into a new contract and I do so, will there be a cooling off period i.e.30 days.
Can I then cancel the contract as the new contract will have over ridden the old one?
Any advice given greatly appreciated.

When you receive you letter with the price increase you should be able to leave BT without penalty. Its the new rules from OFCOM.0
