  • If you haven't already, take a look at the Briskoda website/owners forum.
It is a wealth of information on model specific owner experiences, and if there are any common issues with this engine, I would expect them to be well documented on there.

I've just bought a 2012 Giulietta with 56K on the clock.

I'd initially ruled it out because of the mileage but as it was the colour, engine and spec I wanted, which I was struggling to source elsewhere, I decided to view and test drive it, and had no hesitation in buying it. Apart from a lot of stone chips on the front bumper (which the dealer sorted out for me) the car looked and drove as good as new, which I assume is likely down to the miles being clocked up on long and/or motorway runs.

Interestingly, mine has a 1.4 engine and puts out no less than 170 bhp.

    I love Alfas.

    I love Alfas.

Yes, me too and thanks to their somewhat chequered history regarding reliability they can be a very good buy as a used car as they do depreciate like crazy in their early years. I think a lot of the brand new ones sold are as company cars to people who want to break away from the BMW/Audi fold and when they come onto the used car market after about 18 months or so their value can be half of what they cost new.

My last Alfa was a GT coupe in which I had seven years trouble free motoring. They need looking after and servicing regularly (by independent specialists - the main dealers are expensive and can be awful) but I find driving an Alfa much less of a chore than other marques and it's nice to have something a bit different.

Definitely the best place to go for Skoda information as there's lots of detailed posts and the users are normally very helpful as well.

I'd also echo the comment about condition being more important than mileage, I've seen some high miles cars that spent most of their time on gentle, long distance drives and were in superb conditions while some low mileage, newer cars were in poor condition as they'd mostly been used for short trips so there had been a lot more use than it appeared.

Thanks all, have looked at Briskoda.
Seems like the mileage really isn't an issue.

VAG have so much confidence in their 1.4 TSi it's now going to slowly wither on the vine.

They are now experimenting with a 1.5 version of the engine which will replace it.
  • I've got an old shape (61 plate) - 1.4tsi.

Have had it from new. Just clocked up 102k miles and never missed a beat.
I really would not worry too much -
