Question about First direct - are they 100% internet based?QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

Yes - internet and telephone based. Telephone came first. Having said that you can pay in at HSBC branches and also, in Scotland, pay in and cash cheques at Post Offices.0

First Direct were very helpful when I was away on holiday & could not find my debit card. I went into a HSBC branch, spoke to the clerk and was directed to a dedicated phone. The person on the other end was extremley helpful even though I had nearly lost my voice & was hard to understand.
Also when they changed their internet system I along with others complained as Mac users could no longer use Safari, this was fixed very quickly & they took the trouble to phone me to let me know. Well Done I say!0 -
By the way I have been with First Direct for 11 years, I have had other bank account aswell, but none have been good enough to cause me to move my primary account.0

wow you guys are tempting me to switch to FD!! My only hindrance is that I prefer a bank with a physical presence rather than phone and internet only. I will look into it though. heheQUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

Lloyds are very good. They offer me a financial review every single time I visit any branch. I wrote to my manager explaining that I will never require one of their reviews, and to stop asking if I want one - and I didn't even get a reply.
RBS offer those as well. But when you send them a letter to say you don't need one, they do write back and acknowledge your wishes.

Anything you need a branch for you can do at HSBC, e.g. collecting currency, getting a banker's draft, paying in money, cashing a cheque etc.0 -

And first direct are usually very prompt at posting out whatever is needed anyway. You can do some basic transactions too at Post Offices (if you live in Scotland) if you don't have an HSBC branch nearby.0
